NONE OF THESE REBELLIONS AGAINST STRONG MEN WILL RESULT IN DEMOCRACY. NOT ONE! Hell, the United States with all of our military might can not get Iraq to settle down and accept the outrageously corrupt elections as if they are real.
How in hell does anybody think that regions of the world that do not understand democracy will all of a sudden accept democratic elections in a peaceful fashion?
What we are seeing is a bunch of idealistic young people communicating via modern communications means all rising up to overthrow or pressure corrupt governments. My hat is off to them, (even though I do not wear one).
The idealism will fade when the radical elements all start their program for their causes. The strongest disruptive force in the Islamic countries is Radical Islam. There is no reasoning with them.
If you disagree with them, you have one right and that is to die.

The reality of the situation is that unrest in the Third World (Even in the OPEC countries) is being fueled by the economic conditions. The poor are having to pay more and more and more and more for their food.
Since countries like Argentina and Brazil and the United States are buying grain on the open market and converting it to ethanol as an alternative fuel, the price of grain and food in general is going up.
This provokes tension among the poor. When that tension rises, uprisings start, too.
The Romans centuries ago understood it best, to keep the people tranquil, you have to provide BREAD and CIRCUS.
Keep their stomachs full and keep them busy with entertainment or full time work, and they are happy.
Failure to do so can bring chaos.
