there wasnt any racism i was saying that an aztec was never white. Having a darker complexion guy who is of a hispanic or native background builds that character. that video had just pale white guys in it. Not saying they cant pull it off. its all about personality. But im just asking, are we aiming for someone like mike and miguel who obviously have the hispanic or native ethnicity? I do not agree, equal opportunity the best man or..... women for the job based on ability. I believe that the school is looking for physical fitness over ethnic background. I trust that they will be the best qualified. I don't really like to stereotype and categorized people so I don't really like the argument Are you guessing? There are various factors that make for a good Monty. I'm sure the committee is weighing all those factors and will pick not 1 but 2 new Aztec Warriors er ah Montys to share the duties at all the events.

One thing those whose Aztec history consist of the last 50 basketball games may not realize that what the "person" starts as, is not always the Monty we get. Like with any job, it takes time to not only physically progress to the high standards that have been set, but to feel comfortable as the figure and make it his own. Carlos set the bar amazingly high. When Mike and Miguel started, many commented they weren't big enough or they lacked the energy they thought was appropriate, but in time we got two more great representatives of SDSU ... heck, even the surfer brah who did it for a short time in the early 2000's may not have looked the part (blond hair), but he tried. As with most things, anyone can chirp from the stands. If you're a better representative of our university, go try out and the rest of us will be behind you as you do your best to represent our mascot and school. Mike and miguel were amazing. And yah i agree, personality isnt the biggest thing to look for, not ethnicity or gender. Mike started off slow, but im sure they all did. You dont just come out of the gates on fire. But once he got the grove of things, he did AMAZING. he will be missed. Not sure what the most important aspect is but all count. White Monty pictured earlier in this thread happened to be the Monty when the ruckus started with Mecha etc...... He did a great job but was he the reason Mecha started their stink? Only they know. I just know that the school and the AWF do NOT want to have that battle again anytime soon.

I have heard there were some real good ones n house.
I have also heard that Mike Miguel and Carlos were all very nervous and not great at try outs. It cannot be ez.
I dont think any of us can judge these kids on a 10 second clip from a TV station. I hear there was some kids that some think will be equal to Carlos, Mike, and Miguel.

Ya you could tell when mike first started out as the aztec warrior, he was nervous and a bit reserved. After a couple games he opened up and hasnt looked back since.

If anybody thinks Carlos was buffed and confident in his first year think again. I hear a few trying out were in mid season form.

Hopefully the search for the replacement of a "hall of fame" aztec warrior goes well

Hey, in that clip I briefly saw SteveAztec in the background clapping as one of the candidates was trying out! Good to see that Steve is still involved as one of the best Aztec fans ever, even if he was railroaded out of here.

Who isn't nervous at a try-out/interview especially when there are a dozen people staring at them?

Good to see that Steve is still involved as one of the best Aztec fans ever, even if he was railroaded out of here. Yes Steve was there and he seemed excited about at least a couple of the candidates. Interesting for the newbies to know... since the mascot once again became official the # of people trying out has increased from 1 to 3 and now more than double that. Glad hoops is doing well and now the position is one that has become very desireable to try out for.

Is there a set date or window for when they will announce the winner? are they all done with tryouts or are they trying to bring in some more people to audition?

I talked to a friend that knows Steve yesterday. Steve said that a decision may be made as early as next Thursday. That is when the final four get together for a second interview.

Maybe, but so doing would keep the PC police in check and as you say, I don't want to fight that battle again. Also, I highly doubt somebody of another ethnicity would try to play the race card if he or she doesn't get the gig. Oh and I'm not at all in favor of seeing some pasty white guy who looks like a buffed out Jimmer Fredette or Lee Cummard working the gig.

I thought that one kid on the board said that nodoby in the Athletic Department liked SteveAztec or wanted his donations. And now I find he is still on the official mascot group? Aren't there people on that mascotg group that are involved with Aztec sports and the Athletic Department? I am confused? If above is true someobyd was lying and it looks like it wasn't STeve.

Do people still want to talk about Steve? Isnt this a mascot tryout thread and isnt AztecSteve on the commite? I'm not sure what the problem is here on this board, but some seem to have a big problem with wanting censorship here. Do we not livein America anymore?: Has anybody scene these mascot finalists yet?
