Can women try out? Really? Of course they can but why? It is great to hear that 19 tried out; this time I hope they pick a back up too.

off of appearance..which i think is huge..there wasnt much potential in any of those guys on that video.
the great thing about mike, miguel and past mascots..their ethnicity really helped make them into that character. So finding someone of a hispanic or native background is crucial. Regardless of how built they guy is, i dont think a white guy can really pull it off being an Aztec Warrior but i can be wrong.

All of those potential candidates looked horrible. I can't see any of them being the next Aztec Warrior...

19 guys applied - hopefully there are a couple of good candidates. (Of course, a student is "preferred" - doesn't mean we can't beg Carlos to come out of retirement...)

All of those potential candidates looked horrible. I can't see any of them being the next Aztec Warrior... Wow! Did they show all of the candidates? I think of the few they showed, they had the enthusiasm and willingness to work at making themselves into one of the most visible representatives if the school. I love the fact that some see a 3 second clip and decide that they are horrible. I'm glad and thankful that there are 19 young men, in this age and era, willing to accept the challenge.

Racism will not be tolorated. there wasnt any racism i was saying that an aztec was never white. Having a darker complexion guy who is of a hispanic or native background builds that character. that video had just pale white guys in it. Not saying they cant pull it off. its all about personality. But im just asking, are we aiming for someone like mike and miguel who obviously have the hispanic or native ethnicity?

Wasn't it mentioned by SteveAztec that they looked into having Aztec women as well as an Aztec warrior. That would be cool to have a girl parading around the statdium/viejas ;D I would ask Steve on here but...

I do not agree, equal opportunity the best man or..... women for the job based on ability. I believe that the school is looking for physical fitness over ethnic background. I trust that they will be the best qualified. I don't really like to stereotype and categorized people so I don't really like the argument

One thing those whose Aztec history consist of the last 50 basketball games may not realize that what the "person" starts as, is not always the Monty we get.
Like with any job, it takes time to not only physically progress to the high standards that have been set, but to feel comfortable as the figure and make it his own.
Carlos set the bar amazingly high. When Mike and Miguel started, many commented they weren't big enough or they lacked the energy they thought was appropriate, but in time we got two more great representatives of SDSU ... heck, even the surfer brah who did it for a short time in the early 2000's may not have looked the part (blond hair), but he tried.
As with most things, anyone can chirp from the stands. If you're a better representative of our university, go try out and the rest of us will be behind you as you do your best to represent our mascot and school.

Equal opportunity is how it should be and is how im sure SDSU is taking it. But if it came down to a couple guys, im sure one with a hispanic/native ethnicity would have the advantage if it came down to a tie breaker.

Now that half of his antagonists have left in a hissy fit, he should be back to keep us up to date on all things AZTEC.

All I know is the guy who was the Aztec before Mike (Miguel?) was embarrassing. We don't need a small pudgy Aztec Warrior. Attachments:

And yah i agree, personality isnt the biggest thing to look for, not ethnicity or gender. Mike started off slow, but im sure they all did. You dont just come out of the gates on fire. But once he got the grove of things, he did AMAZING. he will be missed.
