I agree with the sentiment but I think Purdue has been overrated all season. You take any of the top 10-12 teams and any one could beat the other on a given night.

There is no question that if Purdue were to play in the Mountain West Conference, at altitude, it would be the number 26 team in the country. The Fred Noonan School of Navigation.

The biggest problem I have with the BCS honks that also spills over into basketball is the notion that just because you play in a strong conference, you're automatically a top team, de facto.
All the teams in the so-called big conferences use the same trickery. They put together a canon-fodder OOC sked, and then no matter what happens in conference, they have 20 to 25 wins, and viola, they're in the Big Dance.
Syracuse isn't nearly the team everyone thought it was. That's because they played virtually all their OOC games at home. So did Duke. So did Kansas. So did everyone else in the Top 15. But Syracuse and teams like that will get in the Tourney and get a good seed, even after they finish with a losing record in the Big East. They get absolutely zero penalty for their OOC skeds. How good is Duke, really? Who knows? They play 80% of their games at home, which is next to impossible to lose at. Can't really get a good bead on these guys.
Would SDSU have multiple losses if it were in the Big East? Maybe. Probably. But, conversely, Syracuse would still have multiple losses playing in the MGC. There isn't a team in the Big East that could win a game in Provo (or at Viejas, for that matter.) And their players' eyes would bug out if they had to play at Albuquerque, C-Springs, Ft. Collins and Laramie. I'd argue that being a sea-level team playing in a high-altitude league is every bit as challenging as playing in the Big East.

The Big Least/Big10 chest beaters always overlook the elevation games they never play and assume all of SDSU's road wins are cakewalks! I wonder why we never see their coaches scheduling elevated road games vs. the MWC? In the words of Judge Smails: "Well we're waiting"!

They got kinda lucky against UNC, who could not hold a 14 point lead AT Duke. So you are right, playing at home can skew their record.

I'm not trying to defend BCS schools, but I'm sure that if SDSU played in the Big East they would have a softer non-conference schedule on a yearly basis. I think that this year, we would hold our own in the Big East. Teams like Duke, Syracuse and Kansas could hold their own in the MWC. The most important thing is the MWC is getting better and better. I don’t think that conferences like the ACC, SEC and the Pac 10 can get much better. They are already get the top players. Once the MWC starts getting top 100 players regularly, we will stop having troubles as conference come MARCH.

Oh, to dream, .... wouldn't it be absolutely great to see the Final Four consist of four Mountain West Conference teams, with us being the Champs?
Note, we will probably have only three teams selected, however we currently have three teams with top 25 RPI's (SDSU, BYU, UNLV) and then add Colorado State at 42, New Mexico 68, and Air Force at 92.
