Trenkle turned College of S. Idaho into a JC powerhouse by recruiting scads of Brazilian players. That was one of his strategies when he first came to SDSU. He thought he could just turn on the foreign pipeline spigot and enjoy the ride. Turned out to be tougher than he thought. A lot of these guys don't have what you'd really call transcripts. And the good ones are already getting paid. So it's a minefield when you go that route. That's why some of the JCs do well with the Brazilians, but very few of those players move up to the D-1A ranks.

The problem is that the Euro development system is run by club teams and thus necessarily blurs the lines with amateur/pro status. The Aussies are the safe kids since they have a truly amateur academy for developing olympic sports athletes, the Australian Institute of Sport: www.ausport.gov.au/ais/ (where St. Mary's gets all their Aussies...)

Are you sure? My sources tell me that Eze and Kashif Watson are supposed to transfer over for the 11-12 season. Along with Jabbar Young and Eric Lawton, that should round out our 2011 class. Habel may have a year left too!

I'm pretty sure Ryan Amoroso was from a different galaxy entirely. You're thinking of Manker. They named a planet after him. Manker too, no doubt. But Amo used to roll around campus on his scooter and talk about his pet guinea pig ...

Wasn't there something about Camara's father having multiple wives? I'm shocked Dave Rose didn't snap him up ...
