Aztecs dominate defense in the MWC. The difference between the #1 points allowed team and the #2 points allowed team is bigger than the #2 versus the #9. That is dominance.

I find the difference between New Mexico and Utah interesting.
Utah has a much better effective field goal percentage - 48.14% to 51.16%. But Utah has a much worse defensive efficiency. This is because Utah is last in creating turnovers and last in defensive rebounding, while New Mexico has allowed the fewest opponents offensive rebounds and is also good at creating turnovers. Overall Utah allows 31 (113-82) "extra" possessions and New Mexico allows 50 (122-72) "Less" possessions. That is a difference of 81 possessions. That overrides Utah's better EFG% and makes New Mexico the better defensive team as shown in their Def Eff.
