...and an ugly stick. Die slow, Marine. Probably will never govern France, but with 1/3 of the voters on her side, she will still be a factor in French politics. That's because some very crucial questions, not unlike some that are being asked in the U.S., are still unanswered in France. AzWm

The French are smarter than Americans. Le Pen probably would have won here....

I had mixed feelings about this election. There are plenty of people my age and older who hold the kind of opinions expressed in these jokes.
We will see how this guy handles things before passing judgement.
‘France has neither winter nor summer nor morals. Apart from these drawbacks it is a fine country.
Mark Twain ------------------------------ 'I would rather have a German division in front of me than a French one behind me.' General George S. Patton ------------------------------ 'Going to war without France is like going deer hunting without your accordion.' Norman Schwartzkopf ------------------------------ 'We can stand here like the French, or we can do something about it' Marge Simpson ------------------------------ 'As far as I'm concerned, war always means failure.' Jacques Chirac, President of France ------------------------------ 'The only time France wants us to go to war is when the German Army is sitting in Paris sipping coffee.' Regis Philbin ------------------------------ 'You know, the French remind me a little bit of an aging actress of the 1940s who was still trying to dine out on her looks but doesn't have the face for it.' John McCain , U.S. Senator from Arizona ------------------------------ 'The last time the French asked for 'more proof' it came marching into Paris under a German flag.' David Letterman ------------------------------ 'Only thing worse than a Frenchman is a Frenchman who lives in Canada .' Ted Nugent ------------------------------ 'War without France would be like .. World War II.' Unknown ------------------------------ 'The favourite bumper sticker in Washington D.C. right now is one that says 'First Iraq , then France .'' Tom Brokaw ------------------------------ 'What do you expect from a culture and a nation that exerted more of its national will fighting against Disney World and Big Macs than the Nazis?' Dennis Miller ------------------------------ 'It is important to remember that the French have always been there when they needed us.' Alan Kent ----------------------------- 'They've taken their own precautions against al-Qa'ida. To prepare for an attack, each Frenchman is urged to keep duct tape, a white flag, and a three-day supply of mistresses in the house.' Argus Hamilton ------------------------------ 'Somebody was telling me about the French Army rifle that was being advertised on eBay the other day --the description was, 'Never shot. Dropped once.'' Rep. Roy Blunt, MO ----------------------------- 'The French will only agree to go to war when we've proven we've found truffles in Iraq ' Dennis Miller ------------------------------ Q. What did the mayor of Paris say to the German Army as they entered the city in WWII? A. Table for 100,000 m'sieur? ----------------------------- 'Do you know how many Frenchmen it takes to defend Paris ? It's not known, it's never been tried.' Rep. R. Blount, MO ------------------------------ 'Do you know it only took Germany three days to conquer France in WWII? And that's because it was raining.' John Xereas, Manager, DC Improv ------------------------------ French Ban Fireworks at Euro Disney (AP), Paris , March 5, 2003 The French Government announced today that it is imposing a ban on the use of fireworks at Euro Disney. The decision comes the day after a nightly fireworks display at the park, located just 30 miles outside of Paris , caused the soldiers at a nearby French Army garrison to surrender to a group of Czech tourists.

People seem to forget that if it wasn't for the French we, the U.S., would still be an English colony.

Haha, yes I chuckle a bit about the endless right wing French jokes. Seems to be their favorite "go to" attack over the years. How bout those "freedom fries"? I was born in France to a German father and a French mother. I grew up in America without any relatives and have had a deep bond for the place I was born my entire life. I have worked for French companies over the years and have visited many many times. France had approximately 73% casualties for able fighting age men in WW1. WW2 came not much later. A few years ago when the right wingers were trashing France every chance they got, I knew that their wives were at the same time begging to take them to Paris for shopping and fun. I have had incredible times in France.... just like I have had in the many places of the world I have visited.

I'd be delighted to have a beer with you and shoot the breeze if we lived anywhere close. I have a neighbor who has a second home in St Antonin, about 40 miles NE of Toulouse, and another friend and former neighbor who has one near Pezenas in Herault close to the Med. They spend a lot of time there and love it. We hosted a French HS student as part of an exchange program once. Great kid.

I remember how during WW2 how we hated and vilified Japan and Germany. Now among our closest allies. Japan and Japanese were really thought lower than low until I went there and marveled at how they worked to rebuild. I married a girl form Japan and when she passed away from Cancer I married a lady from Okinawa. Our views change when we really get to know people. I still think France since after WW1 is not near as close to what we would like them to be, but just a most places in the World are great folks in person.

The right leaning moderate beat the Uber right Le Pen. The American Liberal press is trying to spin this as somehow a victory for their side, however what they generally fail to mention is that all the left liberal candidates were soundly rejected by the French Electorate. I guess they are tired of their cars and neighborhoods being torched and their women raped by Middle Easterners.

I guess they are tired of their cars and neighborhoods being torched and their women raped by Middle Easterners. You have no idea what you're talking about. Color me shocked. Macron was a socialist before starting the en marche party. Yes, like, you know... an actual socialist. Out of the 5 candidates, he represented the center. Melenchon, who advocated for a 32 hour work week and a 100% tax on earnings over 400,000 euros, got 19.6% of the first round vote. Le Pen, the curdled milk jug she is, got 21.3% of the first round vote. In the run off, Le Pen won TWO of 101 Departments. Of the people who didn't vote for her in the first round, only 15% voted for her in the 2nd. More people decided to leave their ballot blank than vote for her in the second round. She has a base, sure. But that base is the French equivalent of a NASCAR race in Pensacola giving out free Cope and white hoods.
