I've always been curious why we also haven't built small scale 'neighborhood' nuclear power plants. We have had the technology for over 50 years. I'm referring to the small nuclear plants that power our submarines.

I've always been curious why we also haven't built small scale 'neighborhood' nuclear power plants. We have had the technology for over 50 years. I'm referring to the small nuclear plants that power our submarines. Well, the elite, and powerful, political class is as hostile to nuclear power as it is to serving roasted skunk to honored guests. An acquaintance of mine who once worked for General Atomic said that modern nuclear plants are far advanced over the early ones. And, as I recall, I think I once posted a link to an article talking about the possibility of compact, and safe, nuclear plants. The author stated that the nuclear regulatory agency is so hostile to the idea that the Chinese would be ready to sell them at Walmart before we got any U.S. versions authorized. Like a cat who will not climb onto a hot stove but will also not climb onto a cold one, the Left have their minds made up. Chernobyl and Three Mile Island became the hot stove for the Left. AzWm PS: Chernobyl was certainly the product of collectivist government in action. Usually, government screw-ups don't kill anybody. Well, not so directly and obviously.

My only question is waste. Still worth looking into until we make that big break though to cold fusion.
