To those of us who have had family members whose lives have been shattered by substance abuse, that's a great story. Thanks to both of you for sharing it.

Billie was a classmate and good friend at the time who I managed to reconnect with last year and invited him to join us at our San Diego Stadium Parking Lot Dining and Social Club tailgate parties. The story just came out as we talked and I felt it was worth sharing, particularly for anyone interested in the greatest era and teams of Aztec football. I thank both Billie and Brian for allowing me to share their remarkable story.

Most on here (including myself) have never heard of Billy Hayes. EVERYONE on here should read this terrific story. Please click on Bob's link if you haven't...I guarantee you'll be glad you did (It's easy to have been missed during all of the realignment crap). Thanks for the great Story Jim.

No problem Dave. Yet another great story is the camraderie that winning creates. The members of that undefeated team along with their families and friends meet annually the Sunday before Memorial Day for a reuntion picnic at Robb Field. Plus, they have such great respect for their old coach that they keep in contact regularly with coach and his daughter here in San Diego, and try to see him when they can.
