I posted this in a different thread, but since I've seen Baylor bashing going on in a number of various threads, I thought it would be best to give this topic its own place.
I think adding Baylor is an excellent idea. Here are my reasons: 1. They have a very strong basketball program that went deep into the NCAA. Adding this program to the MWC gives us a stronger BBall conference. BBall is fun! 2. Their football program is on the rise. Yes, they have been a doormat in the Big 12, but they have had to play numerous perennial powers year after year. I see their program as similar to Stanford in the Pac-10 in terms of being a doormat for many years, but once they get all the pieces together, they can challenge for a conference title. 3. They add more exposure in the Dallas/Fort Worth market. Football is a religion out here, and University of Texas is its God. For those of you not familiar with the Texas market here is how it works. Even though TCU is and has been a dominate football program they get shafted by UT coverage. Baylor gets better coverage then TCU. Its similar to being in San Diego, but only being able to watch L.A. teams. Adding Baylor gives the MWC two programs to highlight and reach potential recruits in talent rich Texas. 4. Baylor is excellent in a number of other sports: Tennis, women's BBall (national champs), track & field, after Texas and Texas A&M nobody has won more Big 12 championships than Baylor. 5. Baylor's facilities are as good or better than anyone's in the Big 12. They have strong fan base support.
The other option in all this, is once the Big 12 gets raided and UT, Texas A&M, etc. all leave, then the remaining 5 teams (Baylor, the Kansas teams, Iowa and Missou) invite the MWC to merge and the MWC title disappears and we join a conference with a BCS bowl tie in.

I have not problem with Baylor being added (you list many good reasons) but it looks like TCU wants no part of it, so it is likely a mute point.

ESPN quotes the Fort Worth Star-Telegram in this article saying that TCU doesn't want Baylor in the MWC. sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=5279018"But Baylor isn't considered a candidate to join the conference, with TCU standing staunchly in its way, the Fort Worth newspaper reported, citing unnamed sources." Does anyone know WHY TCU doesn't want Baylor? I don't know the back story here.

I think Baylor would be a good choice because out of all the 120 DIA schools, they win the whining championship regularly.

See story: sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=5279018It's ironic that TCU is pushing to keep Baylor out of the MWC. Kind of ironic since the Texas public schools appear (we'll see for sure on Tuesday) to be watching each other's back. Is Baylor really that big of threat to them? If the MWC gets Mizzou and Kansas that is a coup. The MWC becomes a true BCS level conference. We at SDSU would need to step it up in many ways to stay competitive.

I have no interest in Baylor at all, but having 2 major schools from Texas probably would be a good thing because it increases the brand recognition in Texas. Intersting the Baylor is getting the Heisman stiff arm from Texas.

I think TCU doesn't want Baylor in the MWC because there is some bad blood from back in the day when Baylor was added to the Big 12 at the expense of TCU.

No one wants Baylor. They are powerful with alumni and supporters in Texas government. The word is the money distributing bureaucrats tell Texas "where ever you go, you take Baylor with you".
Virginia wanted nothing to do with Virginia Tech coming into the ACC and they were not invited. Suddenly UVA had an about face and said if "VT is not invited, we withdraw".
They then went out into the hallway and threw up.

The MWC main objective is to position itself to get an automatic BCS bid for the 2013 football seaon and given Baylor's football record over the last decade or so, (32-93 since 1997) there is no way Baylor gets admitted to the MWC. Why else would we want Boise State? SDSU, TCU and thre rest of the Mountain West would want to add teams with recent success, such as Kansas and Missouri in order to get the all important BCS automatic bid each year.
Boise State football the last 3 years 36-4 Kansas football the last 3 years 25-13 Missouri fooball the last 3 years-30-11
Now if we were allready in a BCS conference, I think Baylor would be a good school to have in our conference given the schools success in many sports along with having another MWC team in Texas which would make for a good natural rivalry with TCU.

One word about Baylor: Waco.
That probably makes Laramie look cosmopolitan. They don't help in the Dallas market.
TCU will win this battle.

Even though only football and men's basketball are what most fans care for, I like that Baylor's other sports programs are in excellent standing.

I would take Baylor in a heartbeat but TCU won't allow it if we want to keep them in the conference. I think Baylor would make a great traveling partner for TCU.

I'll echo what SGF said. Why would we want a school that despite all of the advantages they've had (BCS, Texas recruiting grounds), has done jack squat in football? Not only that, but they've looked down their noses at TCU and other non-AQ schools since they got into the Big 12 and are the biggest whiners in college football.
I've got TCU's back on this one. Eff Baylor!

I did read that TCU issued a statement saying they do not have an issue with adding any team that will help the conference...sure its just PR but Baylor is strong in other sports outside of Football.

There was a report issued by sports illustrated senior college sports writer saying that he had talked to TCU's AD and he said that TCU will not and is not blocking Baylor from being invited to the MWC. This is a dollars and cents decision and some old southwest conf slight will not cause TCU to stop Baylor from joining us if it makes monetary sence.
