IMO will be the foul situation. I know you guys are tough defensively. If Jimmer can put his man in foul trouble early, could be tough to overcome for SDSU. However, if the refs let them play, and you guys can guard him tough without foul trouble, you can keep him in check.
(And azDick, don't bother with the "he'll get all the calls because he plays for the CHEATERS" line. I'm guessing you were already typing it before you read this paragraph. You really need to get a new schtick. )
The other side to this is BYU bigs. They routinely get in foul trouble, and we lack depth. If that happens, your bigs will kill our backups on the boards.
Should be epic. Biggest regular season game in MWC history.
As I've said in earlier posts, from a basketball standpoint, I love your guys' team. Talent at every position, and some playmakers who come through when it matters. You've had talent in year's past, but not like this. It will be fun to watch both teams in the tourney with some decent seeds. While I'll be cheering for you guys during the tourney, based on the tone of this board, I doubt it will be mutual. But, all the same . . .

I truly believe the refs will be the biggest factor. They have been at BYU road games for as long as I can remember. If the refs would let them play and refrain from ticky tac fouls, I'd put Leonard's long arms on Fredette. But, with BYU home refs, Leonard would have 2 fouls in games opening minutes and be relegated to the bench for most of the 1st half. Since we have 2 solid players and 10 fouls between Tapley and Rahon, I'd probably alternate them on Fredette.

The biggest factor will be our shooting % both from the field and at the line. Jimmer will get his points. We need to limit Emery and the others and make our open shots. Slow the game down and keep YBU under 70.

It may depend on the Zebra crew SDSU draws. If they get picky and Leonard & White get called early for cr@p fouls it will probably force Fisher to go to the bench earlier than he planned and allow YBU to run wild.

I think it's going to be tough for the refs to be "homers" in this game. The eyes of the nation will truly be on them (especially after what happened in football). If there's an obvious bias they'll get called out on the national stage. The heat of that spotlight should make them think before they blow the whistle.

I think the refs get a no home visit pass from the LDS for rigging the game.

Will the refs let them play? Can we just keep close to Jimmer?

We will be rotating players on Jimmer. Probably 3, and maybe add Jamaal Franklin to the mix.

But, all the same . . . Geeze, so nice to be singled out, and by such an esteemed poster! Here's what I think. It will be an epic battle, and if we play defense for 40 minutes like we're capable, the final score will be in the 60's - my prediction is 68-64, my Aztecs. THE CHEATERS will NOT be running up and down the floor like they did in the first half against CSU. I'll get a new schtick when THE CHEATERS admit they CHEATED. But then, CHEATING is not a sin...in Provo. Regards, The 'Dick

I would say that the main reason that BYU has not had much success in MM is the way they allow their home games to be officiated. If you watch any BigEast games, you can see how physical it is and the type of fouls they call. BYU just doesn't get the flop calls they get at home and that is why their jaws are hanging in disbelief come March Madness when they have been programmed by the "home cooking" and unprepared for the big time. That said, I hope they let them play hard which would be good for both teams come Tournament time.

The biggest factor will be who can score more points. The refs will score more for brown yellow underwhere than Gidget will. RRR HAM

Ok, here's my call:
1) BW. If he can avoid the early foul, and makes it to the half with fewer than 2 fouls... I almost guarantee an Aztecs win.
2) Being anything other than ice cold from outside, i.e., don't need to shoot 43% from three, just not 23%.

I don't think we want to get into a game of HORSE with BYU. Our strength is our frontline. I went to the byu-ucla game and the bruins had their way inside. They have a big boy and byu could not guard him. At all. Carlwell could have a nice night. If we start jacking threes-I'm looking at you bwhite- we could get ourselves in trouble. A good three in rhythm after moving the ball around is great but thinking we can bomb away is risky.
I'm not saying don't shoot but be smart and work it inside-out.
And know we will get screwed by the refs. Just be prepared and don't let our frustration contribute to a byu run.
