FYI - I was unsuccessful about getting photo credentials to tonights game and was also told that I couldn't bring a camera with detachable lenses. Sooooo....it's down to the Panasonic FZ100 superzoom (which is not good in low light). Oh well, would've been nice. I'll have to settle for a shot of the whole arena instead of the action on the floor. So if you're gonna be there, make sure to smile for the camera

I would bing in a Canon G-10. A lot of Pros use them as a back-up to their heavier gear. Produces a high quality, professional level file. Adequate zoom.... light and easy to use... any arguments against...given that you can't bring in a DSLR with interchangeable lenses?

That camera would give me a bit better image quality at higher ISO's (than my Panasonic FZ100), as would several other "enthusiast" compacts (ex. Canon S90/95, Panasonic LX3/5). But for my seats in GA, none of them have good enough zoom. And when do you zoom all the way out, you have to stop down the Aperture which will decrease the shutter speed and not allow me to freeze/stop the action. If I was sitting closer to the court where I could shoot at F2.8, then I would probably get some decent shots with these "enthusiast" compacts, though I would still have to use ISO1600 to get a fast enough shutter speed (which greatly diminishes the picture quality), not to mention the fact that the AF systems on these P&S cams is also too slow to track/follow the action.

Yep..was definitely assuming a little creative "moving about" to get closer to the action.... you would have to.
