That last curve he threw to LaRoche was just disgusting!
Congrats on a great debut Stras!

Well, Curt Schilling did say in a Washington Post interview that he may be the best that's ever been.

Bob Costas is a drama queen. How many times did he compare hime to Walter Johnson? Gimme (and Stras) a break. Bob Costas on Strasburg: "It's rare these days when the performance exceeds the hype, because the hype machine is always cranked up. Tonight's performance exceeded the hype."

Strasburg kicked some serious ass tonight!!! 14 strikeouts in 7 innings. He more than lived up to the hype and surpassed it. I am just really glad he is a humble guy and not cocky.

Filthy on the mound. Poise. Very impressive with all of the media spotlight. Let's hope the light dims so he can just go out and do his job on the mound.
Great night to be an Aztec baseball fan....... not often we have bragging rights around the water cooler. :-)

Tied for third. However, Richard and the other guy pitched 9 innings. Stras could've easily K'd 16 to 18 for the night if he were given another 2 innings of work.

That last curve he threw to LaRoche was just disgusting! I believe the final two batters whiffed on six consecutive pitches.

So, big deal if he doesn't get the record for his first game in the majors. He pitched fantastic, and he looked like he was very much
under control and kept his Cool. He looked like a veteran on the mound tonight, and if he keeps playing like that the records will come.
You can count on it. Congratulations Stras!!!

The MLB record for most strikeouts in a pitcher's first game is 15, set in 1954. So close, but also only pitched 7 innings!

Does anyone know if this is the most strikeouts thrown in a game this year? The record was 16 last year, but I can't find anything for 2010.

The most K's this year is 14.
14 set the record for most K's by a pitcher in his MLB Debut.
I believe there also have been less than 10 games in History where a pitcher struck out 14 with 0 walks.

• Then again, as the Elias Sports Bureau points out, the heck with debuts. Only five other pitchers since 1900 have had a 14-strikeout, zero-walk game in ANY game, at any point in their careers, in which they went seven innings or less. Those five: Roger Clemens, Randy Johnson, Javier Vazquez, Mike Mussina and Brad Penny. We're guessing you've heard of them. sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=stark_jayson&id=5266515

Very proud of Stasburg last night and very proud to be an Aztec Alumni as well. I was very happy for him that he had this kinda night and surpased the hype. He seems like a good kid and is very respectful of the opportunity TGywnn and SDSU gave him. I hope is able to stay healthy and have a long, sucessful career.

I liked the way he finished the game, striking out the last 7. The great power pitchers (Ryan, Seaver, Gibson) get stronger in the later innings.
Go Aztecs!!
