Nice. Rock gives us continuity in our defense and Lindley and Hillman gives us continuity in our offense. Go State!

If you guys are happy with 7-9 win seasons this is your hire I'd be happy to see 7 wins. Not sure the NCAA is moving to a 16 game schedule anytime soon.
With the top teams in the conference leaving Rocky is good enough to continually have the Aztecs in a bowl game each year. I won't hold my breath for the kind of success needed for an invite to a BCS conference. EDIT: NM, 7-9 wins, not 7-9 record. I'm assuming he meant 7-5 to 9-3 seasons ... which I'll take in a heartbeat. Bowl eligible and challenging for the conference title sounds great to me.

Now we need a OC. I assume Brady is taking his staff with him. I am curious what goes with Brady, what stays and what is just gone. Will be an interesting couple of days.

Nice for an interim, but now is not the time for a retread with no real name recognition outside of the conference, nor one who already quit on a University. He didn't quit on them, they quit on him. He asked for a bigger budget for better facilities but they didn't budge. They ended up paying more for a coach but haven't done much to upgrade the facilities (as far as I know). I am happy with this and Borges leaving also might help us as well.

I believe Sipe has stated he'd retire if Hoke left. However if he were to return would he be a good OC?

I think if Rocky was the head coach this last year, he also could have taken this team 9-4. I also think Rocky's defensive schemes made a world of difference for the Aztecs and I would hate to see him go, much more so than Borges.
This would be a great move, IMO - particulalry if the alternative means losing Long and Borges and starting from scratch.

Rocky did well while recruiting from Albq and now he is in San Diego and God's Country (well OK - sun, beach, beautiful co-ed and a shot at the pro's country). BYU is gone, the lower half of the conference is struggling. We have always been able to split with AFA (depending on when we play them). BSU and TCU next year will be the real chores. I don't think we will do any better or worse next year - with or without Brady.

This is a rumor from a source that I don't have all that much faith in but I just heard this afternoon that Rocky is going to be the head guy and the OC from a BCS school just north of us is going to be our new OC.
FWIW...

I understand people may not be happy with Rocky Long becoming our coach. Then again many people weren't happy when Hoke became our coach 2 years ago.
However, Rocky Long is what the program needs...continuity. Rocky Long has contacts with the local high school coaches Rocky Long knows how to recruit in SoCal Rocky Long knows MWC opponents and how to scheme against them The defensive players are familiar with the scheme and what he expects Rocky Long has head coaching experience and brings toughness.
Mike Leach may be a better recruiter and have a better record as a head coach and Herm Edwards may be a good motivator and have NFL experience but I dont think this program or the players can survive another changing of the schemes and system. We need to keep the foundation we have and keep building. A overhaul is not needed in my opinion.

They won't be able to announce so soon since its a state run school and we have to officailly post it first. He will be named "interim" for the time being and the officail statement won't come out for another 2-3 weeks (if he is indeed the guy). Not sure that's true. I believe there are exceptions for management positions when time is of the essence as it is here. Am I the only one who noticed they're at 185 comments and counting? That is absolutely phenomenal in one afternoon for any story about SDSU.

FWIW... USC and Kiffin were supposedly interested in Chow last year, look at his pay, I don't think SDSU can provide the compensationhemay want for an OC position: articles.latimes.com/2010/jan/14/sports/la-sp-norm-chow14-2010jan14

Rocky always was quoted as saying he was puzzled as to why SDSU did not succeed at FB. I think he is intrigued with the notion and challenge. I think with his coaching style & the talent assembled here he can kick butt! GO AZTECS! This ain't Albaturkey!
