If the Big 10(1) DOESN'T invite Nebraska... think about what the MWC would look like if we could invite the 'Huskers, Kansas to go to 12 schools... or add K-State and a Texas school (Houston?) to make it 14. Or something like that.
Just the thought of adding Nebraska & Kansas is pretty amazing.

I think this will be the start of 4 super 16 team conferences and the end of the BCS.

I think this will be the start of 4 super 16 team conferences and the end of the BCS. Agreed. As I've said, I think the Pac and the Big Ten have been desirous of returning the Rose Bowl to being the Granddaddy of Them All and once the Big Ten also expands, the New Pac and the Big Whatever are going to politely tell the SEC-dominated BCS to shove it. As to this thread, it's where it belongs. I linked the same article yesterday under the MWC forum on this site but IMO, the MWC forum should just be dispensed with. BTW, anybody else thought of this? Right now anyway, it appears as though Kansas could be left out in the cold. If KU eventually joins the MWC, a certain less than highly regarded former Aztecs head coach could reappear on the sidelines at Qualcomm Stadium.

He's a great recruiter and talent evaluator and so he'll quickly be snatched-up by another program - by the time Kansas joins he'll be head coaching elsewhere

No, but since he's STILL on the payroll (as far as I know)... I'd make him clean the urinals in the Q before the game...

Good find, thanks. Gordon Gee is such a putz. His ego is so immense he should be president of Stanford or USC. Good luck to the Big Ten in trying to get Texas. Rumor has it they've been trying for months. The problem is, however . . . First, the Big Ten has also been talking seriously with Nebraska and whatever happens with this expansion stuff, it's going to result in Nebraska and Texas splitting apart since Nebraska just hates Texas. The reasons are multiple and irreparable: Texas forcing a Big 12 vote to eliminate Prop 48s that NU won with for years; Texas forcing a vote to move Big 12 headquarters to Dallas; Texas forcing a vote to split half of the Big 12 TV revenue according to national TV appearances; and now Texas pushing to move the Big 12 championship game from Arrowhead Stadium to Jerry Jones' Palace in Dallas. Second, the Big Ten has the problem of not accepting for membership any school which is not a member of the Assn. of American Universities. Texas Tech is never going to be admitted to that esteemed body and by all appearances, the Texas legislature isn't going to allow Texas to leave the Big 12 without taking Tech with them. However much Stanford may bitch and moan about letting in a school with academics no better than SDSU's, there is no such absolute prohibition of admitting Texas Tech to the Pac. Bottom Line: If Gee and the Big Ten powers that be could get Notre Dame, they wouldn't care about Texas. However, negotiations with the Irish haven't gotten where the Big Ten had hoped and they're afraid that rather than one-upping the Pac's Utah/Colorado expansion, the Pac is now going to one up them big time. Watching this big boy dry pissing match is more fun than a barrel of monkeys.

That topic has been out for a day now, and the epistolary is over a month old, and the writer makes the conclusion that means texas is going to get an invite - something no one else has made.
The markets that the pac16 will have to me show that the biggest money is combining texas and california along with the others. If the pac16 retains the unequal sharring that both the pac and big12 currently have, texas could make huge money.
Add to that the pac16 would have all it's right negotiable at the same time and next year, so they have tons of options.
Not sure anything happens either way, but the pac16 has the potential to obliterate the SEC and pass the big 10.

Here is the populations of the states these conferences would have footholds in, i added them up pretty quickly based on 2009 data so they may or may not be correct:
pac 16 87.5 big 10 with missouri, nebraska and UT: 86
pretty much even, though, there would remain fairly major competition for eyeballs in the big 10 with pitt, aTm, texas tech, and the sway notre dame has left out of the big 10+1 for not being able to add + 3 additions. And, the pac can negotiate all it's deals, while the big10 has the abc deal for another 4 or 5 seasons.
Texas has a big choice here.

This could work out well for SDSU. If regional conferences become a thing of the past, other conferences might want to get a foothold in the Southern CA market - and SDSU affords that opportunity.

www.amestrib.com/articles/2010/06/04/ames_tribune/sports/doc4c0951e944459305138917.txtRebel Robert posted this, but this is a letter from the President and AD of Iowa State. It explicitly acknowledges the pac16 rumor, that a few schools in the big 12 will determine the fate, notes that under the realignment possibilities that Iowa state will be vulnerable and states they will be ready to act. A great read on the tenor of the situation from inside the situation. I read between the lines that Iowa State knows the big 12 is falling apart and likely soon, and that they need to start lobbying for the MWC>
