Anyways, I like the pod that we would play in here. I think we could definitely advance to the Sweet 16 if we had those 4 teams.
Getting a 3 seed is important because look how much harder it would be as any of the single 4 seeds in this group (other than maybe Temple).

Man, of we can get into the west bracket...I'm sure we'll end up in the east bracket though...

Man, of we can get into the west bracket...I'm sure we'll end up in the east bracket though... Ehh...I think the Southwest bracket is better for us. Look at the pod locations for the West bracket. I'm not sure if that is set in stone or anything, but I'd rather play our first 2 potential games in Tucson than in Washington DC.

From what I understand (and granted, that's not much), the regions the pods feed into aren't decided until they actually sit down to pick the brackets. So it's entirely possible that SDSU gets sent to Tucson for rounds 1 & 2, and should they make it that far, to Anaheim for the Sweet 16 and Elite 8. This is Lunardi deliberately trying to piss us off!

The pods are not tied to a regional. So, the biggest thing, to me, is getting to Tuscon to start off the first weekend. If we're starting this already, here's the site that lists all the predictors: bracketproject.50webs.com/matrix.htm and average out to a 3, of course they all had us a couple spots above where we ended up last year and many, many people finished higher than Lunardi and the guys that get lots of tv push.

I think the Aztecs being a 3 seed playing the first two rounds in Washington DC would be GREAT!!!!! I am slightly biased, of course...

There are no 1st or 2nd round games in the Pacific Time Zone, and only two Mountain Time slots. Tucson is the western-most location. If the NCAA does the right thing (yes, I know, that's a real reach) they will have Tucson go to Anaheim.

Remember, BYU has to be in a Thursday/Saturday group. I believe that is why they usually end up in the west.

I have checked with a few people and if SDSU is a high seed (i.e. 2 or 3) they are basically a lock to play in Tucson. The reason is that the high seeds get geographic protection and there are basically no teams out west that would be higher than us. If we are the best team in the west (and realistically, just need to be the best team in the MWC) since Gonzaga is down a bit and the Pac 10 teams are just going to beat each other up then we'll be at Tucson.
If we can end up as a #2 seed, I think we'll also be tied to Anahiem for the sweet 16. Sure I'm getting ahead of myself, but a Tucson / Anahiem region is pretty dame good for SDSU fans.

And of course this means nothing, but its an off day and there's not much else to talk about, so we might as well speculate. Well, the brackets some pundits were putting together a month ago meant absolutely nothing so I didn't understand why any Aztec was looking at them, much less posting them to the board. However, we're now far enough along in the season that how the pundits compare us to competition is starting to mean something. Maybe not much, but something. So thanks for posting this.

Agreed, OOC schedules are done/nearly done all across the country... so in my mind is the start of when relative rankings start to become relevant...
