For some of the best Mexican food in San Diego, shine Old Town, you don't need to go beyond a 2 block radius off the 5 at the Washington Street Exit heading east towards Mission Hills.
There you have Lucha Libre for some of the best tacos around set in a cool atmosphere. On India Street, you have the famous San Diego institution, El Indio, and Blue Water Seafood, who have the best grilled fish tacos PERIOD. Pick your fish and it is grilled.
All three of these places have lines out the door, so plan accordingly.
Speaking of lines, then Little Italy has several places but two stand out: Filippi's has been around since the 30's or 40's and is famous for pizza.
The other place of absolute note is Extraordinary Desserts on Union Street. Best desserts in San Diego for over 20 years running.
You cannot go wrong with any of the 5 above.
Enjoy.

The best mexican food is always housed in the crappiest buildings.
If it looks sketchy, it has the best burritos ever, and if it looks legit, it's overpriced and just so-so.
I don't know why this is, but it is the truth.

South Beach in OB is hands down the best place for fish tacos in the county. It never disappoints.
The combo plate with the rice and beans (whole pinto beans, not refried......a much healthier option) cannot be beat!

Short on ambiance, but very nice French cuisine and the absolute finest wine list in San Diego...The Wine Sellar and Brassiere. Second this one if you're a oenophile. THE place to go for great wine. Literally a World-Class wine menu.
