Rivals list the MW as #7 as suggests the big 4 will be big again (especially SDSU and UNLV) but they also expect CSU to make some noise (a few experts now are starting to jump on the CSU bandwagon). Could the conference get 5 teams in this year? And Wichita St is expected to be the top team in the MV "Northern Iowa is going to take a step back because of the loss of some key players, but Wichita State appears poised to take the Panthers' spot." collegebasketball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1089141

Too bad that JimBoy is returning to the Zoobs. That guy can really shoot; he's a phenomenon!
The MWC should be a real dogfight next year in hoops. I surely hope we can pile up a lot of non-conference wins since it's certain no one is going undefeated in conference.

My prediction is that SDSU will get over the hump next year and take no prisoners...winning the conference outright, and the tourny.
Next year, in my opinion, marks a mini run of the Aztecs on top of the MWC in hoops.
BYU is rebuilding. Utah is decimated. UNM can't sustain their momentum methinks. UNLV will give you a run for your money...but I think Kawhi and co. have the size, speed and strength to get by them.

I would be surprised if we get even 3 teams in again (OK, maybe not surprised as I expect to get 3). Last year was pretty remarkable in that 3 teams - UNLV, BYU & NM - had a combined 4 non-conference losses and then SDSU won the conference tournament - and may have missed the tournament withou that win. For the MWC to get 4 teams in they will need the have a clear top 4 again. Of course, having an additional 3 teams getting in now will certainly help.

BYU lost Tavernari, Haws, Loyd Jr. That's a significant loss. We've got some new studs coming in,and one back from his mission...but,it's not the continuity that you need and may take a bit to gel. Jimmer is the ace up our sleeve...but, he can be schemed against and that leave the rest of the team to beat you. Don't know if we have the guns to do it. Will be fun to see.

No problem, thanks borg for being honest. I am the say way and tell it how it is. It gets me in trouble sometimes but I am honest and just tell it how it is. This is our year and we really need to take advantage of it. We have to bring in a really strong recruiting class this next year since we will be losing 5 to 6 players. I cannot wait till Jimmer is gone, boy has he killed us the past couple years.

What team is that philip? Tom, I am pretty sure Philly is a huge New Mexico honk. No, but they happen to have the best coach in the conference (who is quite a p*ick but a great coach), I could care less about them and especially there fan base but they imo will win the conference again.

New Mexico. Hmmm....I'm still not sold on them. I think all the right bounces went their way last year. I just don't see them keeping the momentum they built this last year going.
They could...but, I'm not sold on them.

They could...but, I'm not sold on them. I agree, they lost two monster pieces from last year. They might be like SDSU was last year: better at the end of the season than the start. Same could likely be said about BYU with what they purportedly have coming in. SDSU should be the consensus pick, it's just up to them to do it.

Precisely Monty.
I think that the other MWC teams have become weaker to start the new year, whereas I think SDSU is a stronger team than they were last year.
Aztecs season to lose I think.

I like the Aztecs to win the league and mwc tourney. Five Starters return and team has depth at every position. Sure, other mwc teams have players returning and new additions, but Aztecs played really well down the stretch last year and return the five players, Gay, Leonard, Tapley, Thomas and White, who were main contributors. The rest of the mwc teams do not have all five returning starters.

Why is the A10 better then the MWC? Man, the Pac10 has dropped.

The rest of the mwc teams do not have all five returning starters. Not true ... UNLV returns all 5 starters (technically 6 starters) because they get Jasper back, plus 2 bigs. UNLV could easily be the favorite to win the MW in 2010. CSU returns all 5 starters (technically 6 starters), because they get back a returning starter from 08 who sat last year with an injury in G J. Carr, plus 2 7 footers. They are very underrated and could be the surprise team in 2010. Wyoming returns all 5 starters (pre Afam injury). They started 7-8 different players last year and return 9 of their top 11 players. The MWC will much deeper from top to bottom in 2010 because of so many returning players and a few other starters who missed part, or all, of last year with injuries.

I like the Aztecs to win league and conf tourney. Aztecs entire starting five returns next season. Other mwc teams lost key players and some teams have a few starters returning. Not only does five starters for Aztecs return, but Aztecs will have depth at every position. I agree that it is up to the Aztecs to get the job done.
