I wondered why the run has not been working so I looked at one play in the WY game. We tried the off tackle play a number of times and each time Cooper was thrown for a loss. On the play I watched there was a nice hole initially. But Cooper was way to slow in getting to it and the RT (74) could not hold the block and the defender went around him and hit Cooper for a loss. It seemed to me that all the running plays are way too slow in getting started. They all seem more like a delayed draw. I don't think this play was necessarily Coopers fault but the was the play is designed. The handoff should be much quicker so the back can hit the hole fast. Such that even if the RT can not hold the block it is too late for the defender and the back is past him. I guess the way we run the run plays would work IF,IF we had a really good OL. Just my opinion! This is a bit of the new age veer/spread inside zone where the mesh point is held just a beat longer for the QB to account for the DE/scaping LB to crash. Although I would say, O'Neil is probably told to not take big hits since he tweaked his knee. You can see an example of it here: x.com/Mark_Dhooge/status/1336688134889877505The problem is a lot of times the O'line isn't good enough to hold their blocks for a beat longer, so he's getting thrown for a loss or just a couple yards to gain on those plays most of the time. It's frustrating.

That problem of holding blocks just got tougher with our starting center limited and us now down to I believe 7 offensive lineman still active.

I agree, we are beating a dead horse. Coach doesn't make decisions on who plays RB, he clearly delegated that responsibility to Cooper as a condition of his transfer. Unfortunately this approach isn't working for Cooper or SDSU. If we lose tomorrow and Cooper gets all the carries with less than 4 yards per carry, something needs to change.

Regardless if Cooper gets 25 carries for 75 yards he (Lewis) will not make the change
