Not sure if we have enough to take down Boise and UNLV on the road and Washington State at home. The WSU game is the only one that I think we can maybe win. You're spot on. I don't see us winning any of those. We could lose to AF and/or USU? We are lucky we don't play Fresno State and San Jose State? I'm happy with the W today but we are not a good team, actually pretty bad/mediocre. I see one possible path to being more competitive ... we start opening up the offense, become pass first, and we end up seeing 40-50 passes a game ... AND ... O'Neil improves massively instead of gradually and receivers step up big time. Otherwise the current approach on O isn't good, the line is not good run blocking, the play calling remains pretty abysmal. I don't see us winning too many more games with the same approach on O. Watching two teams right now - like Ohio State and Oregon - suggests just how far the AZZZZZZZZtecs still have to go to approach anything resembling relevancy. Enjoy the win and get back to work tomorrow morning. There's a long, long way to go.

The team keeps improving every week. 2-0 in conference is a real positive!

It is nice to get out of what I hope will be our final trip to Wyoming with a win. I found a site that lists the head-to-head results and it lists us as 19 wins and 19 losses versus Wyoming. I don't know if that list includes our win today.

Interesting, the Duck buckeye game is tainted, the refs and announcers are all over OSU's nutz. JMO

Aaaaaand Oregon prevails 32-31 (6–0 now). Not a perfectly played game, and not sure what was going through the OSU QB's brain at the end - but it was about as close a game as the score indicates.
Some game. Maybe some day - while some of us are still alive to see it - the AZZZZZZZZZtecs will be in a game like that. They've got a whole lot of work to do first.

I think the QB is improving weekly, but NOT the team.

Nice little comeback. Came back midway 4th quarter. O’neil is improving. Running game sucks. Get a two back system. I mean 25 carries for 87 yards is terrible. Aftyer watching two other games, Aztec Fast is in 1st gear. Man the team looks slow to me. We will see how much they improved over the next two weeks. Boise has a running back that is really good.

He’s awful calling plays.

The problem with a two-back system installed into the current offense is it would be within the philosophy of rush first with the same delayed handoffs that expose the biggest weaknesses of the OLine, making and then sustaining run blocks. Lewis has to go pass first. The OLine is much better at pass blocking, and this past game showed once the defense fears the pass, running lanes finally open up. I'm 💯 on using more backs too. I'm just saying it's not gonna work if Lewis has the same exact philosophy with the second back as he does with Cooper. Like how he tried to run Cam Davis up the middle

But start rotating backs. Cooper is good, but not great. We have a whole stable of these guys and I like fresh legs. I hope O’Neil is durable. He seems so small to me.

Agree - go pass first. Pass blocking is much better than run blocking right now. Oneil looks to be an accurate passer. A lot of his incompletes are drops.. This may open up the run game as well since the box will be less stacked to stop the run. Also, agree with the play calling - seems to lack some imagination. Can't Cooper catch? No leaking him out to the flat or even up field? Puzzling why the RB is not used in the pass game more. Didn’t see all the Hawaii game but don’t remember seeing Cooper being targeted for a pass this season.

Boise State has a bye next weekend and UNLV plays a non-conference game against Oregon State. Then on October 25, Boise State plays UNLV and that winner will go to 3-0 in conference taking a half game lead over SDSU. It is not true that SDSU will be in first place on Nov. 1.

FYI, Cooper is leading the country in rushing attempts per game (25.2) but is only ranked #100 in yards per carry (at 4.44). As you can see, half of the players behind him on the list are QBs that will take losses on sacks (and none of them are close to having his number of carries). www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/individual/907If you back out his longest run from each game, he has 492 yards on 145 attempts, which means he is averaging 3.4 yards per carry 96% of the time (6 games, so 145 out of 151 carries this season). Wouldn't we be better off having a RB that has a more consistent average per carry versus 1 breakaway each game (if we can call it that)? We need to move the chains, right? Yes, I realize our O-line isn't the greatest with creating holes, so wouldn't a more powerful back be a better option? In other words, someone that can break tackles? Based on what I have seen the first six games, I'm not sure if Cooper is that guy (and breaking tackles was also a weakness for Christon).

Reality check: The Big Ten expects to distribute between $80 million and $100 million annually to each member school…AZZZZZZZZZtecs might just as well troll the local high schools for help. The disparity is real.

You have to give Lewis time to get his players here to run his system. When he was hired, HS/JUCO recruiting was essentially over and he had to plug with the best Transfers he could find. No one wants to hear it, but it will take time to implement his system and get the players for it. Might not take 4 or 5 years like the good old days, but at least 2 years.
