From what I've read, the 8 current PAC members have signed a GOR. Does anyone actually know how long it's for? It'll be interesting to see if it's timing is also when ESPN can pull the plug on their ACC deal. Also, does it have any provisions about if a school is invited to a P4 conference can they get out of the GOR as realistically, that's everyone goal in the PAC 12, is to move to an existing P4 as regardless of how well the PAC 12 does, it won't be considered a "power" conference as the existing P4 don't want more competition. The only way it could happen is if the PAC 12 champion makes the NC game a couple years in a row or maybe 2 of 3 years or something outrageous like that.

So only 4 years? That just screams that they’re all keeping a hand open for a P4 invite. I would have thought 5 years

But, they are trying to be flexible for the next round of realignment. You are already seeing things that indicate the SEC and B1G are looking to break off from the NCAA sooner rather than later.

I doubt that the new PAC will engage in the nightmarish attempts to lock teams in like the MWC did because the PAC well knows that teams are hoping to move up. One of many reasons I dislike the MWC.

I'm sure it's an acronym of something but any help would be appreciated. Go Aztec's!!

I'm not sure I have any problems with the statements as read. Not sure a league is a league without some major commitment. Would think a P4 invite(assuming everyone) desires one, with reasonable exit fees is expexted. I don't know if Sac St is the school to add. Guessing it would take at least 5 yrs to even get up to full compliance? Just hope we can get to 8 and aquire decent revenues, to enjoy some reasonable stable years away from the MWC.

Absolutely NO to Sacto State. That is just a desperation move. I expect more from Gould.

I suspect (hope?) that the Sac St. mentions like in that article are just wildly optimistic local media While I applaud their efforts to raise the school's athletics programs standards... I think a move to the MW is a much better fit for where they are at -- and going in the near-term.

Interesting that the document specifies in "Minimum Sports Requirements" that the schools must maintain "NCAA Compliant Football", "D1 Men's Basketball", "D1 Women's Basketball", and "D1 Volleyball Programs". It does not specify men's or women's volleyball but says "Programs". Is that "programs" meant to be connected to all four sports, or just part of volleyball? I am wondering if it is assumed that it is Women's or if both are required. It is strange that it is a legal document but is that ambiguous, and does not actually detail which gender of volleyball is required or if it is both. I wonder if this could mean Men's Volleyball could be coming back to San Diego State. There have been a lot of people advocating for this for many years since the program was cut.

Given that none of the 8 current members nor Memphis and Tulane have men's volleyball, I'm going to go out on a limb and say it means women's volleyball.

The non-major sports that I feel everyone should eventually offer are (W)Cross country, (W)softball, (M)baseball and (M & W)Track & Field. I think all currently have (W)volleyball. Anything else could be farmed out to other conferences. I'd really like us to resurrect mens T&F because that could interest football recruits.

SDSU had a chance to hire Bob Larsen, a SDSU graduate and considered the top distance running coach in the US, back in 1980. He wanted to bring Bob Vavra along with him from Grossmont College who was a field coach specializing in the pole vault, Vavra had a pit in his back yard and a great videotaping system for the time. SDSU pole vaulters used to train there as well as at Grossmont. However, Vavra's father was seriously ill so his son had to take care of him. Larsen ended up going to UCLA and coached Olympic marathoners, three total medals, two silvers and a bronze if IIRC. SDSU ended up hiring Dixon Farmer from UDub. Men's T&F was eliminated in 1992.
