Others have already done that and I don't have time to re-read all these posts. It's okay if you don't think "blunders" exist. I know blunders exist. John Harbaugh calling 2 timeouts in a row (which is illegal) costing his team 5 yards and keeping an opponents drive alive in an NFL Sunday Night game is a bluder. And this is from one of the best coaches in the NFL. But, I don't believe punting from your own 30, down 21, with 2 1/2 minutes left in a game that you have not scored a single point is a blunder. Many coaches have made the same decision. I don't agree with the call, but I wouldn't call it a blunder. Running the ball 3 times to make the other team use their timeouts so you can kick a FG to up 5 is not a blunder. If he had thrown the ball 3 times and each pass was incomplete, he would have left the other team 2 plus minutes and all their timeouts. If go down and score a TD, Lewis would have been criticized for that. Time Management, don't remember any instances. Being critical of coaches is part of being a fan. But to say these "serious blunders" are "inexcusable" and shows he will not be successful is silly. Saying Wicker should have discovered all this during the hiring process is silly as well. Just my opinion. 100%

Does anyone think playing a true Freshman QB could impact our future recruiting for that position? Or motivate backup QBs to transfer out? Why would somebody want to come to SDSU as a QB to sit 3+ years (especially if they think Lewis likes to play his favorites)? Soooo…. You want him to play the less talented Duffy because he is not a true freshman? Should we make sure Dutch doesn’t play the freshman this year?

Wouldn't everybody from this point on be "Lewis's guys"? When people are saying this, they are referring to his preference to HIS recruits over the current players who were recruited by the previous staff. I'm referencing Lewis' favorites, as being "the chosen one." The bigger question is if playing a true freshman QB may hurt recruiting - especially if they are not expected to leave early for the NFL, etc. Doesn't every coach have their preferred player? Isn't that why they are named starters over the next guy?

Yes, a first-year HC, with huge turnover should be afforded some tolerance or slack. BUT, he has made serious blunders in play-calling, time management and an appearance of "giving up" at times, plus other defects which many here have revealed. And ALL of these flaws are inexcusable in my view, and worse, should have been discovered and discussed thoroughly during the hiring process, or were and Wicker chose to ignore them. Or are we too believe that Lewis, JUST NOW, at SDSU, picked up these bad traits? I get your points… completely disagree… There is just no satisfying SOME people. LOL I must say, I appreciate your tone and wording, ESPECIALLY when you disagree.

I'm not suggesting that, but this is the first time we have ever started a true freshman and I can't help but wonder if it could impact our recruiting. If Lewis is perceived as an open-minded coach that gives every player a fair chance to earn a starting position, then it should become somewhat of a lesser concern for recruits.

How could starting a True Fr. hurt recruiting. I think it shows the best player starts, regardless of year. Could actually help recruiting.

Same… to be honest, being an Aztec fan is really hard… think about it… Scovil Stoltz Luginbill (gotta go) Tollner Craft Long Lots of bad memories… lots of bone head stuff and almost ready to win… close losses at Michigan, OSU and ND… it engages the Reticular Activating System…

For me, I was ecstatic at Lewis's hiring. The energy and ambition grabbed me, as it likely did Wicker and others here. Much of that enthusiasm has been laid low (perhaps by unfair expectations), but also decisions on the field and use of players and time management. I expected those issues to have been "worked out" by priors years of experience. But again, he's still new here, and with these players, and we really have no options anyway but to wait and see. You're a bit more sanguine about his "turnaround" abilities than I. However, my expectations (and hopes) were too high.

Hopefully he's just rusty on the in-game management portion of his coaching, but I wouldn't be surprised if the penalties continue to be a problem. During his tenure, Kent State was routinely among the most penalized teams in the nation and as soon as he left the penalties dropped dramatically (but so did the team record). I doubt we'll care as much if we start winning, though. So hopefully we start winning.

The difference is remarkable.

The difference is remarkable. You need a “C” in front of “Long”. Also interesting that Luginbill makes your list, but Hoke doesn’t, even though their career numbers are remarkably similar.

When you bring in and intentionally make public new catch phrases like AztecFAST and Be The Alpha, don't be surprised by criticism when after four games you fail to show even an inkling of said catch phrases. The expectations of something different than what we've been watching for the past two seasons is absolutely fair.
