Do we have another Chuck Long situation on our hands? I will give Lewis another year to turn this thing around but some decisions that he had made are just head scratcher. For example, not recruiting a senior QB and turning the QB starting job over to a true freshman. Also, not keeping one of the best coach from the previous staff in Deakin is just dumb.

I brought up Chuck Long the first couple weeks because of all the dumb penalties and mistakes. I did miss the third quarter today but otherwise it seemed like those were corrected for the most part. If our kicker makes two chip-shot field goals, we win. That said, recruiting an effective offensive line is going to take some time. The class status of our QBs has little to do with our record.

We got owned on a fake punt, on one of the most tired out plays, just hit the gunner if they give a free release. It's a pop warner play, after a reverse, this may be the next thing you learn. |

I don't get the sense that they are carbon copies. Chuck was an old school, Woody/Bo type out of the Big 10. Lewis because he comes from a conference that played in the Big 10's shadow, is a believer in innovation. Now, whether he can implement innovation, the jury is still very much out on that question 4 games deep.
Put another way: Chuck Long I knew was a mistake from the day they announced his hiring. Lewis...
I still don't know -- but he's got @32 games left to right his ship, though we will know well-before that. The honeymoon, flash & dash & talk fast/get the Lamborghinis out on the field, is over.

STUPID He and our, ahem, "esteemed" President were rank amateurs in every conference alignment situation. He clearly mucked up this hiring as well. Got sold a bill of goods in Lewis. Dude must have pictures on someone. I think Lewis has promise, but he needs to take stock. He needs to understand that a framework is better than a wrote system. He needs an offensive coordinator who will balance his tendencies. I loved Rocky, but his failure was his inability to separate himself from the defense. Lewis has the same blindness just 180 different. |

Lewis should be on the phone with my golf buddy's son Parker. Just 4th year playing organized football, second year as WR with Grossmont HS and is second on the team in receiving. Also is a kicker and was all Grossmont league soccer his freshman year. Extremely athletic kid. Just took up golf and easily drives the ball over 300 yards with no formal lessons. I'll put in a good word for SDSU.  |

I just think this is who he is. Most coaches at this level have healthy egos, usually have like-minded "yes" men on their staff. He clearly came in with his idea of an offense and program. It's often hard when youttoo close to see and make necessary changes. I hope you're right that he can take stock and course correct. But people are usually "who they are". |

Lewis didn't miss two chippy field goals in the 4th quarter that would have won it.
The FG kicker is in his own head - not what you want in a FG kicker.

I was excited about Lewis. But as soon as he said it was going to be 4-6 games into season two before his offense really started to click, I said he’s not the right guy. Making excuses before you even coach a game is bad. Looking like you are scared to be aggressive is bad. He’s just out coached every game and so far is no different than Horton as a OC.
