Ed Scott was right. That was not a good deal for them and nobody should be surprised they did not take it. Rumor is that there was at least one hold out from Pac "6" at the time of the offer that did not want the non-geo conference. I still think the only shot at making this a conference that competes with the lower end power conferences is grabbing Memphis, South Florida, Tulane and maybe UTSA. Good up and coming programs with decent media markets and more time slots in more time zones. Add in Gonzaga and UConn and you have some excitement that media companies will bid on.

I like the idea of UC Davis having attended as a young lad. However, it has been a long time and the only true rival is Sac State and the Causeway Classic if they still play that. It is a huge rivalry and brings fan out.
However, other than that, I don't think anyone attends any of those games. Neither of those teams have a huge fan base.
Davis is kind of in the middle of nowhere. You go West you get Vacaville, Fairfield Suisun City, Valley Jo, etc. Now you are entering CAL and StandTURD territory. You go East you got Sacramento, Roseville, and mountains or you go south to Elk Grove. Maybe you go East and grab some Folsom or Carmichael or whatever the hell is out there.
My point being, you are not gaining much with a UC Davis or Sac State. It just isn't happening and as much as I like UC Davis, those schools add nothing. These areas are CAL, Stanford and cough cough Frestucky for the most part.

I have a very reliable and valuable source that says UNLolV is not coming because they are sick of the Aztecs kicking their azzes and owning them in basketball. They are tired of giving us extra home games very season when we play there. I am not able to disclose my made up source, and it might just be the voices in my head. This information is hot off the press.

Rebels betting on future P4 invite. Actually a helluva deal.
"Mountain West will pay an estimated lump sum of $10-to-14 million to UNLV in 2025, and also pay UNLV approximately $1.5-to-1.8 million annually over a six-year period beginning in July 2026. The new payments are on top of the current revenue streams from existing contracts and media assets. The current media deal expires in June 2026 and negotiations for a new media deal will begin in the near future.
The university will also have the flexibility to explore future membership in an autonomous “Power Four” conference without penalty should the opportunity become available."

Welcome back Monster, it's been a minute. So to be clear, you're not disappointed that you're not joining us in the Pac?

Welcome back Monster, it's been a minute. So to be clear, you're not disappointed that you're not joining us in the Pac? Long long time. Cool to see this board still strong. I would love to be in the PAC, just don't think it made sense financially for UNLV.($20 mill in debt, need to scrape every penny to convince Odom to stay/extend) IMO, PAC should be paying these MWC schools exit fees (they have the cash) and they should have added more than original 4 instead of allowing the AAC and MWC time to counterattack. They low balled Memphis, clearly. UNLV still has that Big 12 pipe dream. (laugh about it or not, doesn't hurt me LOL) The fact they will make $25-30 million on top of any lowered revenues, while not having to pay an exit fee is a huge deal if they truly believe then Big 12 will make that call down the road. Joining the PAC just cost too much for UNLV and if their Big 12 dreams came true later...thats another exit fee for the PAC. Paying 2 exit fees within say, a decade, is not exactly financially smart for a Athletics Dept who is $20 mill in the hole right now. Sucks the MWC era is over soon though. Lots of history for fans here. This re-alignment is nowhere near over. I'd be surprised if this new PAC/MWC have teams eventually poached again.

We need to hurry up and add Texas State, JMO. The dynamics of this have changed rapidly.

What is the PAC doing? Waiting until no one is left? Seven teams gets us nowhere.

PAC needs to throw money at Memphis where they can't refuse. That's probably the only way you solidify PAC being a "G5 Allstars" conference.
As of right now, they're down to adding filler schools just to make the 8 team req.

Hawaii for football + UC Irvine for everything else would be interesting. UCI basketball is pretty solid (Gonzaga and St. Mary's would be great too, obviously)
