If I am from Nevada, New Mexico or San Jose State, I am begging for a Pac invite and willing to pay what is necessary to get it. UNLV made a long term tactical error. They took some short term cash that may or may not be available to bury their athletic department over the long term. Nevada and UNM would both be great adds for basketball, and every conference needs a Vanderbilt or a Rutgers to anchor the bottom of the football standings. San Jose State has a big TV market, but they are not overly relevant within the market.

Don’t look now, Sac State just announced they are building a new 25,000 seat stadium and using the architect Populous. I know everyone says no way but they are located in the top 20 media markets in the nation and have plans to build a new basketball arena as well. They will easily surpass SJSU in the athletic front in the next 5 years. I’d much rather take a young program looking to grow than someone who’s done nothing for decades. It's not happening.

Not the first through 5th choice, but as a fallback option it's better than nothing.

Well, if the 7 MW schools all sign today the not happening gets a small opening. The AAC is looking to expand with Texas State. Sac State is by far a better option than UTEP and NMSU. Just not sure what’s really left out there. The AAC teams aren’t leaving.

But if the AAC gets them, then we're pretty screwed as not only are we stuck at 7 and having to take a small / bad option for # 8, the AAC got that much better by hamstringing the new PAC into a small school. I'm thinking the original 4 MWC schools assumed we'd be stealing some AAC schools. This isn't turning out as well as I'd originally hoped.

You may be right… I grew up in Elk Grove… 200k suburb of Sacramento… small town when I was in school… hearing that Sac State is going to build their stadium and then eventually share it with an MLS team… Sacramento has a strong soccer fan base… but yeah, that is a ways away

But they aren't a consideration for the MW either.

There are reports that 6 of the 7 MWC football schools signed binding commitment agreements with the hold out being Hawaii. But only UNLV, Air Force and 4 of the other 5 needed to sign to make it binding. Hawaii may be holding out for either full membership in the PAC or football only membership. The rest of the MWC is now off the table which is fine.

The MWC is reportedly offering $100 million to the remaining committed schools. The problem is that money may not exist and may never be available to distribute. The PAC has already filed a lawsuit claiming the poaching fee is illegal and several legal experts have said their case is very strong. It is reasonable to expect that there will also be litigation and negotiations over the exit fees from the departing schools. The MWC can and likely will withhold 2 years of media distributions which may get the league to about $50 million total, but I don't see them getting the remainder without years of litigation. Air Force and UNLV are allegedly supposed to get $25 million each. That would only leave a little over $50 million for the remaining schools to split if all of the money were realized. But if that money never becomes available, how does that impact these schools and what do the schools do if it does not materialize? Do UNLV and Air Force demand their $25 million and give nothing to the remainders? Does the binding agreement desinigrate if the terms are not met?

There is NCAA Tournament money too. The MWC has 26 units over the past 6 tournaments (most of which is thanks to SDSU). That is probably around $50 million over the next 6 years, but that is money that the schools would have already been receiving a portion of, so most of it should not be part of any "signing bonuses".

Texas St is the best non-AAC add at the moment. By far.
