Interesting, we could see the former MWC Commissioner fighting against the current one.

And they only receive $1.5M in conference disbursements, so their buyout is $4.5M. Maybe their fans are just jaded, but read the comments on that article. There is zero faith the new stadium will be built anytime soon (or at all). If it were already in motion or complete, I'm sure they would be getting the nod. Oh ya, that stadium may never be built. they would end up being kicked out. But they get you to 8 and a tv deal.

Hair received $1.3mm in severance last January in addition to his annual salary of $950k. Perhaps he didn't retire on his own and may have a bit of a grudge?

Moraga is a VERY affluent area. And St. Mary's is far more desirable than USF. And yet they still play in a 3,500 seat gym, second smallest in the WCC after Pepperdine. They have been pushed to build a bigger arena and they haven't. And Gonzaga was the biggest "pusher" involved. And USF has a brand new practice facility for basketball. USF might have been important 60+ years ago (and I'll allow for Bill Cartwright in the 80s as well)... but when was the last time they were relevant at all? If you want to add USF... why not just add New Mexico or Nevada, both of whom are far superior basketball schools. EDIT: I lived in the Bay Area for 35+ years... USF was a complete afterthought about on par with SJSU.

Yes, just a 5 year agreement and I am sure getting a stadium built is a specific period of time will be required for continued membership, may even require certain levels of progress in order to maintain their membership.

USF was a complete afterthought about on par with SJSU. Again, am comparing them to St. Mary's. Don't bring in Nevada or UNM because they would have to come in for FB as well. USF last made the NCAA Tournament in 2022. Last year they finished 3rd in the WCC. Again, my point is that they have better facilities (including a brand new practice facility), larger gym and student enrollment. Again, what happens when Randy Bennett retires? He is entering his 24th year and St. Marys had just three NCAA appearances in their history before Bennett arrived. Despite their success, they haven't made any significant improvements to their facilities in support of their BB team. The only WCC school I want is Gonzaga. If it took adding another WCC school to get Gonzaga then I'm open to it. However, I don't want Grand Canyon. But, I do think Gonzaga comes without needing another WWC school to come with them.

A number of years back, I went to St Mary's to watch the Aztecs play. The funny thing is we didn't travel well back then and there were not many of us in attendance. I just remember the St Mary's stadium being very small and old. If it still has not been updated, or expanded it would be hard to get behind a St Mary's being added. Also, I would be worried about the program because Bennett can't coach forever. I just don't like the idea of St Mary's being added or any other WCC school other than Gonzaga.

the door has closed on MWC. Nevarez got the remaining 7 schools to allow grant of rights through 2022. so hawaii and rest of MWC teams are off the board. Air force and UNLV will the the vast majority of money teams pay MWC to leave.

Step 1 - Lock in 8th member - Preferably UNLV, but in reality it doesn’t matter… there is not that much difference between UNLV and AFA or Nevada or UNM - just lock in number 8 - this guarantees you have a conference and byes time. Step 2 - Lock in Gonzaga - give them a full share. You now have what you need to run the conference which would easily be better than any conference other than the P4. Step 3 - Invite AAC schools Memphis, Tulane, Rice and UTSA for a June 2027 start which is outside the 27 month window which would reduce the exit fees to only $10m. Since you already have 8 schools you don’t need them until 2027. This would remove all of the leverage from the AAC. You then guarantee them $12m in total payout for the four remaining years on the GOR. I know I am going to lose some of you with Rice and UTSA, but both are in good markets and more importantly both are R1 schools, meaning all four schools would be R1 additions, with WSU, OSU, CSU, USU and UNLV only SDSU (for a short amount of time), FSU and BSU would be R2 universities… this is important for the long term… Step 4 - Sign SMC and give them a half media share. This will bring the conference to 12 FB amd 14 BB Step 5 - Now that you have UNLV and the MWC is down to 6 schools, you hope that at least two decide to leave, for example AFA and one other school… then you are down to 4 schools… all you need is one for them to get to 9 and dissolve the MWC… you work with the other two departing schools to align on a payment to them of say $10m per leaving school or $80m that the four remaining schools can share… or you give one of them a “short term deal” which would allow them to play in the P12 for say three years… as part of this deal the departing six schools agree to pay, say Hawaii, $40m over the three years they play in the P12… then Hawaii votes to disolve… Step 6 - call Calford I normally don’t quote myself… Nothing has changed… The Top 5 MWC programs left and moved to the P7… It doesn’t matter what the MWC does… it is a disaster… The MWC has spent any and all money on AFA and UNLV… while the P7 offered UNLV nothing… The P7 has sued the MWC and soon the MWC 5 will sue the MWC… The MWC will get about $70m all in… good luck paying AFA and UNLV Now the P7 will make a real offer for Memphis to start play in 2027 and the dominoes will fall

Air force and UNLV will the the vast majority of money teams pay MWC to leave. The MWC members signed a MOU, not a GOR. The deal is contingent on the MWC's ability to squeeze money out of the PAC. Sorry. $50M ain't going to go far, and I doubt they do better than that.
