Word is he went into went into Coach ODOM'S office this week and demanded an increase in NIL, which Odom said they couldn't do and thus got angry and decided to utilize his redshirt and transfer.

From all places this had to take place in Vegas. Someone forgot the bag of money. This is a little fishy with betting lines changing for Saturday.
Another broken promise by UNLV administrators. UNLV is on a roll this week.

UNLV is on a roll this week. Someone probably stopped at a casino on the way to campus and gambled his bag of money away

if true - utterly disgusting that college football is becoming this... When they recruited him there's no doubt he impressed them with his talent, but they obviously overlooked his character flaws. I bet he was cocky and his teammates hated him.

"I have decided to utilize my redshirt year and will not be playing in any additional games this season," Sluka said. "I committed to UNLV based on certain representations that were made to me, which were not upheld after I enrolled. Despite discussions, it became clear that these commitments would not be fulfilled in the future. I wish my teammates the best of luck this season and hope for the continued success of the program."

Maybe they should just let players have agents

But, wait ...isn't nil money supposed to come from external sources, not from the school ? So why did he go to the coach to demand an increase (allegedly), shouldn't he go to whoever is paying him ? It smells bad on several levels.

It smells bad on several levels. the schools can arrange for the NIL, but is paid by the booster or collective. Even if the school did not arrange, he went to UNLV because of what a booster said and is now taking his whares somewhere else. He is playing for a bag, why risk injury for UNLV if he is not being paid? there is a kid who is suing a University over what a booster promised and did not deliver. Sucks for UNLV, but I would be surprised if they don't know what NIL deals the players have in place. Player contracts is probably the next step to end this stuff, but who knows.

Sounds reasonable to me based on interviews with other NIL agents…

UNLV is 3-0 and ranked #24, but his QB stats have not been all that impressive. 43% completion rate, a little over 100 yards per game passing, etc.

I remember when scholarships meant something. They should give it to the kids who want to go to school (with the GPAs to back it up), the players are just hired guns with no school loyalty.
Oldie Out

Oldie Out Since the kids don't see value in a free education... with free tutors, housing, meals, books, clothes, etc... then why even be students? Maybe hire as employees of the school? Additionally, why don't the kids see the value in the coaching they receive which develops their talents? Without the coaching, they would not be able to turn Pro.

Free education, tutoring, room and board, stipend, training, and coaching all for free. Back in my day, it was a great trade.
