I'm sure it feels good for Lewis to stick it to Coach Prime by starting the season with the QB that would have been the Buffs heir apparent to Shadeur...

I remember when everyone was calling for Will Haskell to start and the waling and gnashing of teeth when he transferred. How did that work out for Haskell?

Many, like myself, believe True Frosh need to redshirt. Especially qb's. They need the extra year of physical growth, Strength and Conditioning development, and to get used to the speed at this level. I have read several reports that Johnson was really emerging, had the best arm strength, and was a play maker. However, it appears Coach is going to ride the horse he recruited. For good or bad. In this wild West transfer era, many Coaches feel it is better to start a guy a year early than run the risk of him transferring because he didn't start year one.

I remember last year we road the horse(s) till we almost died. In the end we probably ended up with the QB that we should of tried after game 2 or 3? Hindsight is easy, but is reality.

No reason to even talk about the offense (offensive?) from the last couple years because they have NO CONNECTION to this years group.

Thought I would start this with all the bi***ing in the other thread that O’Neil got the starting job This site reminds me of the movie, "Hoosiers" sometimes. You know the part when the parents and fans tell the coach what he needs to be doing.

I got the idea that Duffy & O'Neil were 1a & 1b...so if they are that close...pick the younger guy first. If he struggles, we have an upperclassman who can step up. The other way around, maybe the moment could be too big for the freshman to step up after watching the older QB struggle.
Just trying to make sense of the whole thing.
Again, I'm just gonna trust coach and encourage the leader in place! #GoAztecs

O’Neil said today in an interview that he is only guaranteed to start week 1.

In this wild West transfer era, many Coaches feel it is better to start a guy a year early than run the risk of him transferring because he didn't start year one. In 1990, Aztec junior RB TC Wright was the second leading rusher in the WAC conference. He lost his starting job to a true freshman a couple games into his senior season. Wright never got his starting job back. Now, I'm not claiming O'Neill is Marshall Faulk, but I am saying not all true freshmen should be pigeonholed into needing to redshirt. www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1991-10-12-sp-224-story.html

Fire the defensive coordinator. Can we hire Rocky Long?
