Rumor has it that Texas Tech is adding Wyoming's current head coach to the TT staff. P5 pillaging of the MWC continues.

Linder is a good coach. It’s tough sledding in Wyoming to recruit and unless you are State, Boise, CSU, UNLV, and AFA (fb), it is going to be getting even harder. The timing of this move is not great for Wyo, but their roster was picked over already.

It's no longer a rumor, Linder is leaving Larime for Lubbock. The Pokes signed 5 transfers; they will have 30 days to choose if they want to stay or leave.

Linder has brought in some decent talent from the WCC, BW, and FCS ranks. Most are undersized While they may develop into a decent MW squad, these kids are nowhere near B12 quality. Congrats to Linder on getting out of Laramie and landing a decent job in a decent Conference.

Seems like a good move by him. He's a good coach but had like 6 guys enter the portal and leave. Without a ton of NIL money who would go to Wyoming to play? Basically he has to resort to all young talent that if coached up will leave. Seems like a Rodney Terry move from Fresno St. to Texas a couple years ago. Probably will make similar money with a lot less headaches in a P6 conference too. If TT does well their coach could get poached and then he gets the job likely just like Terry did. Another reason a reformatted P12 aka P2 conference with the best of the MWC not including Wyoming makes so much sense. Unfortunately the reality is Wyoming just brings us down at this point in the current college D1 sports landscape. They had some great football and basketball programs in the '80's but that is long gone now.

I'm guessing this will become the norm. We've already seen lower level football program HC's leave for assistant jobs and now basketball HC's will follow that path.

Is the way things go now - players and coaches are going to move / transfer to P6 schools when they get the opportunity
especially with the NIL money being offered players and the salaries comparison between even being a P6 coach versus non P6

Sad for the Wyoming sports community and for the MWC. The monetization and commercialization of college athletics continues to accelerate the degradation the have nots. Hope Linder does well.

None of their coaches grow up to be Cowboys… tough times in Laramie.

I'd take that pay cut to get out of Wyoming too.

I'd take that pay cut to get out of Wyoming too. Ever been to Lubbock? Yes. But I've been to Laramie too. There's air to breathe in Lubbock. 3,200 feet altitude is so much better than 7,220. Lubbock's about 120 miles from where I was born.

Then you were a lot closer than most all of the other "major" cities. They are all about 300 miles away! Closest major city to Lubbock, TX Major cities near Lubbock County, TX 266 miles to Fort Worth, TX. 279 miles to Arlington, TX. 282 miles to Oklahoma City, OK. 294 miles to Juarez, Mexico. 295 miles to El Paso, TX. 295 miles to Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. 295 miles to Albuquerque, NM.

Well, nothing's close in Texas. There aren't many major cities in West Texas. Still better than Laramie, IMO.
