No! First, the arena needs to be on the main campus as it is easier for most students to go to the games, especially on weekdays. Second, the Innovation District will bring money and status to SDSU - which is important for our future. Third, I have read that Viejas can be expanded to about 15K if we need to. Not sure we need to, however.

As someone on the wait-list for season tickets, I think that expansion to 15,000 would be great.

For once, I actually agree with President de la Torre. I do too. But … do we really trust her? If her position in this article is correctly stated, why did she take the trip to Austin to see UT’s Moody Center? She’s an unelected politician in many way, she certainly talks and acts like one. I don’t trust her.

Just out of curiosity, doesn't SDSU have to pay to play in Viejas? So before the JAM center was built they had to pay to practice in there as well? It sits on University property, but I assume they don't own it nor the naming rights.

What will happen is SOOO San Diego: The city, Midway group and SDSU people will piss and moan and maybe sue, resulting in flotsam, jetsam and other detritis all over Mission Valley and Midway, with one Phoenix rising, Bad Reputations.

I saw it on Twitter, but the answer for the city may be SDSU West West. Sell the property to State and then connect the parcel to the old town trolley station.
The problem with the arena is that it would compete with Viejas which is already paid off and has access to the largest concert base in the county. College students.
We have gone from State is screaming everyone at the behest of their donors to we need State to have a successful project.

Which will make the job SDSU did getting the football stadium built so quickly and on budget even more amazing.

It's a pretty sweet hart deal if I remember. A feature employee of mine was very instrumental in getting that pasted by the students great work by the students. We would never have seen the changes we have in the men's basketball without that arena.

Exactly, all the $$$ stays within the university community (athletics paying the Assoc Students). So for all practical purposes, in the big picture of the overall university, it's free.

Let the accountants sort it out... better than paying a developer.

And not sure anyone else in MWC has to pay?

I have met her and find her impressive and enthusiastic about our athletics progress. We could have ended up with someone not interested in football and basketball programs; instead, we have a committed and enthusiastic supporter of both, and Olympic sports. Live and thrive with it.
