USD point guard is in the transfer portal. The 6'0" 190 lb from Coronado HS, who signed with USD three seasons ago, is testing the water. This season he started 32 games, averaged 30 minutes, shot 42% FG%, 34% 3FG%, 74% FT%, 13.5 PPG, 3.6 RPG, 2.9 APG & 1.3 SPG. McKinney is well known by all in San Diego and has played at the SWISH event previously. A possible SDSU addition would come with a short learning curve. www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/wayne-mckinneyiii-1.htmlThoughts?

If we had to choose from Koren Johnson (Washington), Dominick Harris (Zags/LMU) or Wayne McKinney (USD), who would pick and why?

McKinney isn't a good fit, not much of a shooter which is what we need. He is well below koren and harris on my wish list

Funny how in May, we're discussing how McKinney fits seamlessly into the Aztecs' offensive and defensive strategies, yet just two months ago, he wasn't deemed as a suitable transfer for the red and black. Welcome aboard, Wayne.

Well, yeah, it's not rocket science. We had Butler then.

Well, yeah, it's not rocket science. We had Butler then. Maybe, but the silver lining: is well-versed in the Aztec philosophy, players, and gameplay style. Spent three years at USD and technically still has two seasons ahead. Carries the 'Butler Mindset' with him, and we're cheering him on, on the Mesa.

That is what I was curious about. Covid year still applies? Tribune said one year left.

Given the impact of COVID-19 on the educational environment, the NCAA Eligibility Center partnered with the NCAA membership to identify the following changes to the initial-eligibility certification process for students who initially enroll full time in a collegiate institution during the 2021-22 or 2022-23 academic year. Q1: Due to COVID-19, will there be any flexibility in the initial-eligibility standard for students who initially enroll full time in a collegiate institution during the 2021-22 or 2022-23 academic year? A1: Yes. Students who initially enroll full time in a collegiate institution during the 2021- 22 or 2022-23 academic year will receive an automatic initial-eligibility waiver in the academic certification process that provides the highest level of relief for which they are eligible.

Welcome aboard, Wayne. Because his skill set is similar to Butler's and we didn't expect Butler would leave. However, his FT% is better and he gets to the line more often. As a replacement for Butler, he fits in well.

At least height-wise, it's a better comparison - and we gain one inch in height with Boyd and two inches with McKinney. If talent is close, it's a win.

Except if McKinney is actually 6'0", then he is probably more than 2" taller than DT. I never believed 5'10".

The kid is pumped to be an Aztec, that's what I love to hear Boyd, Coleman-Jones, and McKinney are thrilled to be part of Aztec Basketball, bringing the perfect blend of attitude, work ethic, determination, training, and a winning mentality. Boyd (Combo Point) Games: 27, 9.3 PPG, 2.7 RPG, 1.8 APG, 1.0 SPG, 0.0 BPG, 40%/34%/84% Coleman-Jones (Post)Games: 33, 11.0 PPG, 7.6 RPG, 2.3 APG, 0,6 SPG, 1.1 BPG, 45%/44%/77% McKinney (Combo Point) Games: 32, 13.5 PPG, 3.6 RPG, 2.9 APG, 1.3 SPG, 0.2 BPG, 42%/34%/74% Once we secure that final replacement, our roster will be set, and then it's summer vacation. Of course, summer activities for the staff scouting and recruiting, AAU Tournaments, player development 6 returnees and 6 new players, Coaching clinics, and strategic planning sessions for the upcoming season are also on the agenda, alongside administrative tasks, handling NIL events, and managing team collectives. There's no downtime when it comes to preparing for success in the 24/25 season.
