I agree to take him out after the one inning. No need to pitch him any more with that lead. Everything was fine until Kolek came in. Matsui and Peralta did their job. Suarez pitched to two batters. No big deal. Kolek's the story here. It is a big deal when you've asked a lot of your closer already. Those bullets matter. Getting him up, sitting him down, getting him up again matters, too. He needs to trust other guys. Bringing in your closer in a five run game with two outs is just panic preservation. Morejon wasn't even utilized for some reason. He did trust other guys like Matsui and Peralta, and they did their job. Suarez threw 6 pitches, and got the Save. It's ok. It all comes back to Kolek. If Kolek does his job, we're not talking about this. Now, we've got Morejon for tomorrow if needed.

Ho hum. Yawn. Arraez with another 4 hit day. Carry on. Merrill hit the ball well enough to have a 5 hit day. He'll settle for 2.

Peralta has been used erratically, Matsui has been really overused as a low strikeout/weak contact option who is going to break down later in the year as a 5'8 reliever. Using those guys back to back isn't smart, either, but it's been done regularly. Both lefties, both groundball specialists, both reliant on offspeed pitches. Just too similar, so it's never made sense to me. I've been talking about it for weeks, it has nothing to do with Kolek at all, really.

Well, if Shildt is a guy who likes lefties on lefties etc, maybe that's why he backs them at times. I don't know. All I know is pitching isn't our problem. What we do at home is, at the plate. Sure, it doesn't have anything to do with Kolek if you're only talking about those two pitchers usage.

Pitching is also a bit of a problem at home as well. A bit, but not a lot like it is at the plate. But it's a bad combination.

Unbelievable. Just when the offense starts waking up …
Darvish and Musgrove are both showing some serious signs of being toasted. Becoming undependabie is just one sign.
Meanwhile Spazquez gives up another long ball. Padres' lead was short-lived.
Wow.

Vasquez is on irregular rest and didn't even get to Kansas City until 2AM, pretty tough circumstances.

Solano is our best option against lefties AND righties.

GIDP for Solano. Pitching around Manny worked - this time.

Thank goodness we didn't use Morejon yesterday, and we didn't use Estrada for more than two outs. Both available today, and did their jobs. Estrada coming out for more.

The loss of two starters is ominous… every team will lose players during the season, though. Hopefully they bounce back - but given their recent performances, I’m not too optimistic right now. There isn’t much backup on the horizon, either, short of making more trades, and the price will be higher than ever.
