The Padres are 24 games above .500 for the first time since August 28th, 2010. The Padres, at their high point that season, were 27 games over, on August 25th, but then proceeded to go on a long losing streak. They are a much better team this season than the 2010 team. Remembering fun times--the Padres most games ever above .500 was 41, on September 1st, 1998. I worked in Ess Eff that season and talked A LOT of smack to my co-workers that August...lesson learned: NEVER talk smack until the deed is done!

Ryan, any HSK update since 3 days ago Kim (shoulder) made "light" throws across the diamond Friday, per MLB.com?

Thoughts on "pitching to Oh-Oh-tani"? How will Padres game plan for him given the tear he's been on lately? He typically is followed by Pukey, Freeloader, and Hernandez in the lineup. Whatcha' gonna do? Treat him like any other leadoff batter? Challenge him on every AB? Or Doesn't seem to have a weakness to exploit, does he? Speed?

Soft stuff away.

With 6 games to play, the Padres could be anywhere from not qualifying for the playoffs (almost a statistical impossibility), to getting in as the overall #1 seed (extremely unlikely), and anywhere in between.

Technically true, but the odds of advancing beyond the four seed are minimal. The Mets and Braves series is a weather nightmare right now.

A better way to put it is that they can't advance past the four seed without winning the division. One loss basically eliminates any divisional chances. But we might have to wait because of the weather fiasco in Atlanta, I have no idea how they are expecting to play an entire series there with the present forecast.

They could play a make-up game (if necessary) on Monday--but if more than 1 game gets rained out, would they go to a neutral site? Would they delay the playoffs by a day? Will Manfred retire? (The last one is the best option, in my eyes.)

Today would have been the best day for a DH, as it has the best forecast for the next 3 days (but even late tonight is a little iffy). It's going to be a mess regardless.

If you only consider the odds of the Padres winning 6 in a row, and if you give the Pads a 60% win percentage against the LA and a 65% win percentage against Arizona, they only have a 5.9% chance of doing that. FanGraphs gives us a 9% chance of winning the division, which also includes other scenarios such as the Dodgers losing a game or two in their series after they play the Padres: www.fangraphs.com/standings/playoff-odds21.6% chance of sweeping LA if we are a 60% favorite in each game (admittedly a bit generous odds-wise). That the Dodgers get to play the Rockies at the end of the season doesn't help either, although they are playing in Coors - so anything can happen.
