Over the 7 conference games thus far, Waters is shooting 34% from the field, 30% from three, and 67% from the line. Tonight Waters was almost a non-factor: 6 points, 0-3 from three, 0 rebounds, 0 assists, 0 steals, 0 free throws, 1 personal foul. He should shoot more mid-range shots. That's where he's money.

With perhaps the exception of the very, very top 1% of players (think Jordan, Wilt, Bird, etc.) basketball game-to-game performance is quite cyclical. We see it every year with players that are really good who may disappear for a few games, then come back with a vengeance. Sometimes it's due to a nagging injury, sometimes outside distractions, sometimes because a teammate has really stepped up and you stay with the hot hand, and a whole host of other possible reasons. Waters will definitely be back in form soon enough. With LeDee getting double and triple teamed every game now, Waters will really be needed.

as one of the announcers said after the game on the after game show
For the Aztecs to make a decent run in MM - the team will need Waters to be a consistent contributor at about 15 points or more
Butler went off as was expected and as Zeigler pointed out first time both he and DT have scored in double figures
Do wish Parrish could also be a consistent performer
The good or bad Saunders hit his first couple of threes then settled for the Three - as he and others were left open by the Wyoming coach 's game plan and the Aztecs continued to play into their hands - taking the unguarded threes and missing them - early in the shot clock
while the coaches do not want to hinder a payers three point shooting - maybe save it for later in the shot clock for some of the guys who do not shoot it for a high %

BTW, what's the deal with Demarshay Johnson the other night? He made a cameo appearance and dunked a basket, but was pulled the moment he fouled. Hell, Heide fouled 4 times.

Shay does know not to attempt a Three - maybe some others should take note - especially early in the shot clock
A high % two point shot is quite valuable especially when the team is in a scoring drought

I tend to watch him closely when he comes in because A) he gets so few minutes and B) I'm really rooting for him and think he has a lot of potential. While he made a really good play on Byrd's perfect alley-oop pass, he also was beaten on D a couple of times, and just before he was pulled, he failed to block out one of the Cowboys, leading to an offensive rebound and putback. It was nice to see his teammates high five and hug him for his dunk when he was pulled, but I bet the coaching staff had those other plays in mind and will be using them as a teaching moment. I still hope they start giving him some more quality minutes, not just garbage time. We are going to need him to contribute more once LeDee is gone.

not that easy not playing for numerous games
in addition have to note that all the Aztec bigs got beat by the Cowboys bigs - so Shay was doing the same -
Saunders loves his three point shot and gets beat often , Heide gets beat and fouls - was it 4 in a short amount of time - Pal also likes his three pointer and needs to continue to work for rebounds - also no soft shots they need to be scores
Waters when healthy can create a shot in a wide assortment of ways that the Aztecs need

Waters had a down year last season on 3PT shooting due to his ankle. He clearly is impacted this season by the same injury. I think he's 90% but the mental aspect is trailing the physical healing. With a full week off I think he'll be 100% physically and 90% mentally.

Look at it this way, even with Waters big struggles we are 5-2 in conference play. When waters gets more healthy we will be even tougher to beat

Heide can make free throws, Shay needs lots of work. In a close game you can't give up free throws without getting something else of equal value. If Shay want to play, he needs to remove the reason to keep him off the court. I would like to see how well he rebounds and blocks shots if he gets more PT.

There are some Aztecs that have become enamored with their 3 point shot - and especially early in the shot clock - understand that you do not want to tell your true shooters to totally stop shooting but for some of the guys there might want to be a consideration on what might be better for the team .
At least suggest to some of the guys that maybe try some better % shots to get them going .
play good team basketball

sure seems as though Waters is forcing some shots - he is a guy that can create his own three point shot and a variety of others but ever since the injury has not been able to get his true rhythm -
Would be nice to get him untracked but not sure there will be time this year
He has said he will come back unless he turns Pro but doubt that he gets any offers other then abroad
seems to be a great guy - nice article by Zeigler

He could fix their stroke in seconds just like a golf pro tweaking your swing. Players with big egos may not be amenable however, thinking they could fix it themselves. I think Waters would welcome fixing what ails him.

I think Waters would welcome fixing what ails him. He needs more arc on his shot. It’s a small correction but makes a world of difference. His shots come in at a low angle which is why you see them clank around the rim in the way they do.
