But as a WR or QB do your ears not perk up when you see the offense he runs? I think we need a better offense, it my preference would have been for a modern pro set offense. But we shall aeee how his version of the beer and shoot works here in San Diego. Hopefully the fan base gives him time to build his program. Because this hire requires time, there may not be immediate success. JMO. I don't think you're wrong. If our new coach comes in and runs his offense because he's the great Sean Lewis then he may or may not be a success. If he comes in and evaluates what has made SDSU successful in the past and perceives what's needed for success in the MW and against P4 opponents, then he'll do very well.

I'm pretty sure it won't be a 100% turnaround, but the way we win games or lose games will be telling. Success next year will be determined by how many current recruits and players we can retain and how many ones we wouldn't normally get that Lewis can bring in. I'm sure he will get offense players but we need players on defense as well.

Oh, Barry Lamb and his 46 defense was terrible. I remember Cal State Northridge was able to convert 3rd downs with ease. My point was that you can't be gassing your defense by scoring too fast. You got to let them rest. Oldie Out Sure beats gassing the defense because of another 3 and out Stoner for the win.

I don't profess to know much about him but I do like two things. 1. He is young and energetic and could bring a whole new spirit to the program. 2. He is an offensive guy who hopefully will bring in a more exciting style of offense like SDSU used to be known for. Throw the friggen ball all over the place, that is SDSU Football. We need butts in the seats and 200 yards of offense per game isn't going to cut it. So I am optimistic about this hire although the cupboard is pretty empty as far as what he is taking over. Realistically, he'll need to get his type of players recruited/transferred/portaled into the roster. I'd give him 2-3 years. Unlike at Colorado, where most of the players were told to portal/transfer out while Prime brought in dozens of his own players almost immediately. Oldie Out

One season his offense averaged 600 per game, roughly a 2 game total for SDSU

The timing is awesome because it beats the portal deadline. So a chance to salvage some Aztecs on the fence and also engage guys in the portal.
It's full of freshman WRs and QBs, especially the latter who don't want to sit. Some can use their HS pedigree to go to another power school, most can't even some 4 star guys take a step down to start especially when the room is actually crowded with talent.
Lewis has a ton of experience with the portal

If they officially hire him tomorrow that's huge. That gives us our coach early so he can grab the best available coordinators and position coaches, and it gives them a chance to get in on the recruiting and transfer portal.
This team could actually end up 6-6 next year if everything goes right.

the most hilarious take on the hiring All this guy needs is a tinfoil hat. Very funny! Yee Haw!!! Sanders makes himself look bad, he doesn't need assistant coaches to. This Clown is an Eagles fan, enough said. I feel like I lost a few brain cells just listening to him. I better not see Coach Lewis with a toothpick in his mouth on the sideline though..... but I'd take that over gold chains dangling from his neck.

Did the defense regress? Or was SDSUâs defense more a victim of an offense that couldnât convert on 3rd down or score any points? I'm thinking about things like poor tackling & execution (blown coverages), even in the first half of games, which shouldn't be massively affected by a bad offense that can't stay in the field. Aztecs lost a lot of leadership and experience from last year. So much youth and no offense to give them a break, it shouldnât be difficult to grasp why they struggled. The defense kept them in every game except for AFA, Or St. and UCLA. With a little more offense SDSU could easily have finished with 8 or 9 wins this year.

2020 football stats need to be taken with a grain of saltâŚactually more like a teaspoon. That was the Covid year when everything was crazy and non-normal

Not sure itâs wise to scrap 12 years of defensive success based on one bad season.

Anything less than going to the mountain west championship next year will be a disapointment. UNLV did it so will this new coach at SDSU.

The Aztec D was small upfront on the DL, particulary at NT. Any D that runs a 3 man front needs a stout NT to so the ends and backers can create pressure. This D missed Tavai more than many realized.

I was hoping that SamuelaTuihalamaka would have clogged the middle more, but I guess 290lbs wasn't big enough to get more of a push.
