These issues are all linked, I hijacked nothing. Obviously McCarthy had a tenuous grip on his speakership and GOP members of the House felt their issues of spending/national debt and border security were not being addressed. They had leverage and the support of all Democrats, so they pulled the trigger. It was probably the stupidest thing they could have done, but it happened regardless. Correct, you can't plan for stupidity!

But Donald Trump isn't linked to the situation....hm. Acting like Republicans care about border security is peak nonsense, by the way. They haven't passed, or even tried to pass any reasonable legislation. They wanted immediate deportations of all DACA immigrants. Complete nonsense.

FWIW, Mike Johnson from Louisiana is the new Speaker of the House.
Apparently the GOP found some middle ground between the fiscal Armageddon crowd and the spendthrift RINOs.

This isn't any kind of middle ground. He's a hard right guy who engineered the amicus brief to overturn the election in 2020. The mess continues.

He wants the Gov to stop the Sexualization of children under 10. Oh the Horror!
His amicus brief dealt with changes to election law that occured without supporting state legislation. That was effectively the same legal point made that slapped down the Florida Supreme Court from making up new election laws on the fly during the Bush vs Gore contest. Boo hoo.
He was for one man and one woman only marriages just as Obama said he was. Obama was probably just a liar then but Johnson said he accepts the gay marriage law as settled by the Supreme Court.
He is pro life and supports the Dodd decision and letting the states decide their own way on that. Very standard for GOP pols. His personal beliefs do not necessarily dictate the GOP agenda. My bet is that he will not try to enact any new Federal anti-abortion legislation.
Being a fiscal conservative in a time of $2 trillion annual shortfall is not a bad thing.
I gather he is a peace thru strength advocate and that is a mainstream mational security policy.
Go Mike!

Has he recently conspired in $20 to $30 Million in bribes? Has he turned our border patrol into a travel agency for illegal aliens? If not, I think I can deal his quirky personal religious beliefs.

He backs the same guy who was indicted for violations of the Espionage Act. But a bribe? Heavens no.

Mike Johnson isn't to be trusted. The GOP Clown car is ready to roll with square wheels. JMO I think the bedwetting Dems blew it. They should have voted to keep McCarthy in as Speaker. He's not a smart guy and could have been manipulated. He wanted to remain Speaker in the worst way and if he knew he had the Dems' vote he could have been malleable. MAGA Mike Johnson's thinking could be worse than Gym Jordan. The only difference is he's soft spoken. Not obnoxious like that MAGA crowd, but he's a wolf in sheep clothing.

The MAGA faction wants to reduce the debt from the current unsustainable levels….and you are referring to them as morons? Reducing the debt sounds sensible and responsible to me. Continuing to spend money (33 trillion at last count) which may very well take decades to repay is actually moronic.

Let's be clear: They don't want to reduce the debt ut of the goodness of their hearts. They don't give one $#!+ about the debt, as they had many opportunities during the Trump administration to do so...and all they did was add $7.8T to it. They want to make systematic cuts to important programs while providing tax breaks to the rich. It's inhumane, exploitative and disgusting.

McCarthy announces he's leaving Congress, effective at the end of the year. The GOP majority is down to 2, with the expulsion of George Santos.

Perhaps he can go back to Bakersfield and fix the residential water problem. Private citizens can't get water for their plants, gardens etc. because the almond farmers get the water. Sux.
