realize the system goes - a player enters the Portal - a school say SDSU places an inquiry to the player to see if there is any interest . If the player does have interest then the staff does their research to see if he is a fit both on and off the court .
So understand that not every player is a fit for SDSU and the staff spends their time on players that they think might and then sees if that player would like to come for a visit .
At some times you have mentioned Aziz would you say he might be a possible player for the Aztecs or the former WSU player that you mentioned - he played on the West Coast and is from Chandler AZ
Think you had mentioned that Aziz might need a waiver is that correct or is he a grad transfer
Realize getting a quality guy down low is not that easy and the staff is doing all it can

At some times you have mentioned Aziz would you say he might be a possible player for the Aztecs or the former WSU player that you mentioned - he played on the West Coast and is from Chandler AZ Think you had mentioned that Aziz might need a waiver is that correct or is he a grad transfer Realize getting a quality guy down low is not that easy and the staff is doing all it canThe biggest reason its hard getting a quality "5" is because we've always already had quality 5's. The better players in the portal want 30+ minutes & a starting gig, which is unlikely to happen here. We have to find someone who's willing to take 20-25 & fit into a deep rotation. We ended up with guys like Yanni, Tomiac & Diabate because we had Nate. We got Nate because Pope & Rooks both graduated, and we only had Narrain, who only played 10-minutes or so the year prior. Recruits know we're returning Ledee, a guy who played significant minutes at the 5 during a NCAA run, and we have a promising player in Shay Johnson behind him. They know minutes are much less guaranteed here than most places they'd go. The fit has to be perfect. You can't tell them Ledee will only play the 4, but they're more tuned in than you'd think. They know how their game fits with who we have. They know we have Saunders at the 4 & are in talks with Pal. We cast a very small net, and focus on them. Don't know if we're focusing on Aziz or not, but I'm sure they at least reached out to him initially. He'd do wonders for us, assuming he's good with accepting a lesser role than 30 minutes a night like he had at Utah V. Nate played basically 20 minutes a night, and he was a guy who'd been in the system for 5 years & the guy behind him hadn't. Now Ledee has, and whoever comes in won't have. Not sure what WSU player you're referring to? Jackson is a "5" who transferred, but he's from California & he ended up on the east coast. For me, there are a couple players with west coast and/or MWC ties I'd love to have, but will wait to see if I see them as taking visits before even bothering to talk about them. My expectation is some guys may be on are waiting to see what Pal does, but we'll see. If the staff pulls off both a quality 4 & a quality 5 I'd be unbelievably impressed! The need is more for a quality 4 IMO, and a 1-year backup swatter. Definitely don't need to talk about every single player since there are way too many to even speculate about, plus there's a good chance it'll come out of thin air like Parrish (or Yanni or Tomiac) did.

Skilled, but 2 years away from contributing. You got 1 of mine....would love to have him, although don't know if we're in contact.

Had mentioned Adrame Diongue - 7 Ft Freshman from WSU - with a 7 ft 6 inch wingspan - at his Arizona HS as a very good defender , rebounder , rim protector - a 4 star recruit originally from Senegal not sure when he actually started playing basketball
Played in 23 games as a true Freshman - 6 minutes per game - 1 point and 2 rebounds - did have an injury . Has an 8.8 Block ratio and 2.6 steal ratio and some say a very high ceiling -- yes he is very slim but quite athletic and can run the floor
So yes it would be a guess that IF the Aztecs did add him he or Heide would red shirt or assist at the 5 position - just thinking he might be worth checking into or for Coug to check with his WSU friends on their thoughts

He'd need to RS, and if you do that unless you RS 2 guys - Heide & him, it'd make zero sense.

Only that it's not easy to add a Quality big, given who we already have on our roster. We're more likely to uncover hidden gems like Yanni, Tomiac & Diabate.

They also had great defense from all 5 positions on the court at all times but having bigger guys really helped wearing out other teams.

Diongue's per 40 minutes & 100 possession numbers are intriguing, and will have a much higher ceiling over the next 3-4 yrs. 40 Min: 8.2 PPG, 11.5 RPG, 3.3 BPG & 1.6 SPG + 4 TOs 100 Poss: 12.7 PPG, 17.8 RPG, 5.1 BPG & 2.5 SPG +6.3 TOs

Lamont , Elijah , Myles Bryd , Shay Johnson , Heide , BJ Davis are all HS players that went from HS directly to the Aztecs
Transfers Ledee , Jay Pal , DT , Micah , Rivers
so maybe a more of a 65/45 split for the HS players
and this past season they had 4 more HS players making a good amount of the team being from HS to SDSU
