Las Vegas (Nev.) Arbor View four-star power forward Pharaoh Compton is down to five schools. Moving forward, the 6-foot-7, 215-pound rising senior will consider Iowa, LSU, San Diego State, Tennessee, and UNLV.
Out of his remaining finalists, Compton has only taken one official visit — San Diego State. He’s scheduled three more — Tennessee on September 23rd, Iowa on September 30th, and LSU on October 14th. He unofficially visited UNLV earlier this year.
San Diego State: “With the Aztecs coming off an amazing season, it just starts with Coach (JayDee) Luster being that guy from day one who kept it real with me and how he sees me fitting in at SDSU. Or even how they will help with my development and training is huge. You need to be somewhere they really want you and want to help you get better. From the start of the summer heat, Coach (Brian) Dutcher being at every game he can possibly be at and always keeping in contact with my mother or even my coaches is different. That isn’t something you see out of a lot of head coaches it shows how much they really care for you.” This guy is a PLAYER! He is what Aztecs fan have been wanting for years, a guy that is willing to do all the dirty work other guys wont. He's always looking for rebounds, always High Motor guy, always giving all he got, great size not going to get pushed around, not a flashy guy just a hardcore looking basketball player. Sign this guy up! (fingers crossed!)

He’s a dude you build that Aztec culture around 🤘🏻

He is the type who enjoys doing the tough guy stuff, the rebounding, the defending, the screening. Offensively, his game extends to about ten feet, but if he gets it in those ten feet, he tries to dunk everything. Compton has good hands and really tracks the ball at a high level on the boards. There is no fear in his game. Despite being undersized, he is a good post defender. He moves well. He is explosive. Activity and toughness are his game.”

Aztecs are a lock to sign this guy unless Tennessee, Ole Miss, or LSU hand him a a big NIL check.

4-star forward Pharaoh Compton visits Iowa this weekend.
Iowa: “(I like) the way they produce their 4’s. They said I would be able to show what I have to offer vs. other teams.”

Aztecs are really going to need a quality replacement for Ledee too bad Pharaoh did not visit Iowa end of October when the weather can be much cooler If Johnson or Heide aren't the answer, which they may be, it'll be easier to recruit a big via the portal this year without an incumbent already in place set to take the bulk of the minutes, unlike last summer.

see what you are saying
But this past spring / summer the Aztecs were in the process of losing Nathan , Keshad , AG all 3 players who played either the 5 or 4 positions so the only returning player that played major minutes was Ledee who when asked what position he would prefer to play said he would prefer the 4 . So there was very likely going to be a good amount of PT and very likely a starting position - The Aztecs have Ledee but but after that there are not many experienced people to compete at the 5 or 4 as you mentioned Shay Johnson , Heide , and possibly Elijah who would seem more likely to be a 4 then a 5
It sure seemed to at least me that the coaches contacted numerous guys that play the 5 but unfortunately it seemed NIL money got into the picture and players did not come here more to the NIL situation .
the Aztecs also had a great MM run and into the Finals to assist them in recruiting

Seriously what are you talking about? SDSU was desperately trying to find a centers in the transfer portal. Everyone knew that when Mensah left they needed to replace him. Please don’t lie and say they wanted LeDee as the starting 5. Good experience bigs are hard to find in the portal. They couldn’t get a quality one because of NIL. This is coming off being in the national championship game.

This is coming off being in the national championship game. Issue was inability to find a backup 5, Ledee is a solid starter and probably works better as a 5 than 4 given his meh lateral quickness. Next year they’ll have a clear starting spot available, that’s a different dynamic. NIL obviously plays a factor too.
