Lugo was dealing today.
Hadn't started a game since 2020, and went 7 innings.

Tough luck for Wilson… got a pitch up just a few mm too much. And Longoria pounded it.
Dahl and Kim rescue his AZZZZZZZZZZtec.

Terrible game. From nonsense with the pitch clock to Manny getting tossed out to Darvish not looking very sharp - still could've won the game, though.
They were out in front and would've won this one but for the craptastic BP duo of Garcia and Crismatt.
You can hang a loss on those two, Jerry! … particularly, Louise Garcia. Dude singlehandedly threw away the game to Arizona in the 8th inning. Error on the pickoff throw, and that sets up Rojas to steal home. Honeywell comes in and the game gets flushed away.
Why any of them is wearing a Padres uniform this season - after last season … I reckon the lack of quality depth in the bullpen is going to be a season long problem.
Today's game shouldn't have been a loss.

Lugo was dealing today. Hadn't started a game since 2020, and went 7 innings. That was a jaw dropping performance! Incredible. Especially for his FIRST start! I'd be stoked getting 5 & 3 runs or less from the guy, never mind looking like an ace. Wacha was solid as well, and Weathers did pretty well. Oddly, the 2 pitchers who looked the least like quality starters this year are Darvish & Snell! : )

He's spent all night and all morning getting dragged by Padre fans.

Tatis can’t get back soon enough. Xander B is hitting, the rest of the team…..not so much.
Of course that will eventually even out, I’m still waiting on Soto to go on a HR/RBI binge.

Natural consequences … Junior better grow a thick skin, he's going to get lots of unwanted attention this season - and beyond. Sadly or not, his transgressions are never going away. He put himself in an unenviable position for the rest of his career and he only has himself to blame for that. I wish it weren't so, but it is, so he'd better grow that thick skin and prepare for the worst. While he'll be able to redeem himself in San Diego, even here it will never be the same for him. Very tough situation.

Having him around helps the entire team, but he'll be a great stabilizer for Junior when things inevitably get tough. Cruz has pretty much seen it all, and he understands the grind better than any of them probably ever will.

Crismatt has really gotta go. Absolutely worthless coming out of a BP that reeks of desperation (among other things) right now.

Based loaded, hit into a double play. I've seen that quite often. Bummer.

Based loaded, hit into a double play. I've seen that quite often. Bummer. Not impressed with that AB at all unless I'm looking at it from Morton's point of view. Well selected pitches that kept Carpenter's ball on the ground where he was no way ever going to be able beat it out. Padres needed a fly ball to the outfield where they might've gotten at least one run, all they ended up with was an inning ending DP. Can't wait to get Junior back in the lineup.

He swung at a few balls out of the zone. Not good. We lost a golden opportunity there. Agreed. Can't wait for Tatis to get back.

Slide Odor!!! You cost us a run!!! Yeah, not sure what he was thinking there. Maybe he thought he'd already beaten the throw and he'd just plow through the catcher. Ump says he didn't touch the plate, but that was close, and it looked like he went back to touch it twice. Unfortunately, in between all of that another runner came in to score. D'oh!

Cold weather affecting H.S. Kim tonight or combining that with the change in position. Unfortunately, his E-6 just cost them a run … his first ricochet was ruled a single, but it was definitely playable.
Manny just saved the game. Garcia almost blew another one.
