Seeing some oldies on this thread. Oldies are unbowed by yet another epic Aztec collapse. We recognize it as regression to the mean after all of those years where the Aztecs closed out games better than any team on the planet. A few Aztecaritas will soothe the wild beast in anyone, even the notorious CDIII who famously went after the entire Egos team with a Bombat and later wrestled Detox Dave to the ground at the Serra Mesa fields..

I believe that this will be my 10th or 11th Aztecarita year...Mark and Ricard are incredible hosts and put on a great pregame / postgame tailgate party...Aztec Nation is lucky to have them
Please bring ice, extra tequila, and/or snacks...all which are easily found at the CVS on Paradise and E. Harmon...
As for finding the party...it's now grown to about 300 people...so finding the party isn't hard to do

Unfort can't hit the road until ~1 or so Wed - so don't think we'd be able to make it in time. Super bummed they changed the format, used to be a sweet double header on Saturday when both our teams were in the final. |

Yeah, 6 days of MWC Tournament will definitely make one week … We can't leave until Wed morning, so maybe you'll see us if we break down on the way. Hopefully the wild weather cooperates! After an obligatory stop at Eddie's World, we should make it in time for the Women's final - especially if Stacie's team lands there. (though that looks tough since they're in the same bracket as UNLV) … but we know what they say To be the (wo)man, you gotta BEAT the (wo)man!. Safe travels! |

My second MWCT … other time was in 2020 for the Malachi Dream Team for all 3 games, including the heartbreaking loss in the championship game to Wannabe YBU Lite… Sam Merrill hit that incredible long fadeaway 3 with KJ draped all over him, and his hand in his face.
I was behind our 2nd half basket with a perfect angle when Malachi launched the buzzer beating attempt … it looked true the whole way, but we know how that went … with the shot spinning around the rim and out… inches from a buzzer beater for the MWCT Championship.
Saw the Aztecarita-fest crew out there that year, but my group wanted to get inside early. We instead had a vodka-fest inside, there are several bars along the concourse.
We found a great bartender, ordered several doubles in tall glasses, she poured legit triples … so we scored in our own way. Several doubles, er, triples later, we were celebrating our opening round win over Air Force. GREAT day.
Planning this year to go to all 3 Aztec wins (God willing) - I land 845a Thursday AM… and will definitely try to stop in to meet and put some faces to Aztec Avatars.
Finally getting over the brutal meltdown the other night - MAN … that was ugly and too familiar. Hope springs eternal. Just lasso Wyo and take them down HARD, and then go get to the MWCT Championship game playing to cut down more nets … and all will be right in the world. That loss will be “forgiven” 😆… but never forgotten 😉

Top three:
1. Beating BYU in the semis in 2009.
2. Beating UNLV in the finals in 2010. It's when the program arrived.
3. Beating Nevada in the semis in 2018 when they were highly rated.

I’m not arguing, but … worth mentioning and considering. Helped get us a 2 seed and the first 2 NCAAT wins ever. I was in Tucson for those, and it was magical. Plus the payback to Jimmer & that team was amazing. That was a GREAT YBU team. Yes I know Brandon Davis didn’t play in the MWCT. Ut we did absolutely dominate that game |

The 2004, 2005 and 2006 MWC tournaments were in Denver that makes 3 and not 4. That day in 2006 was epic as the AZTECS won a championship and it snowed outside the Pepsi Center. The temp dropped that night to about 20 degrees. Flying home, the plane had to be de-iced for my first and only time. Adding, 2006 was a cold winter for inland San Diego County. Last, the 2003 tournament was the first time I attended the tournament in person.
