Who's laughing at Murfreesboro, Tennessee now. Certainly not the Civil War soldiers who died there.

From a college football stat guru: “A team’s turnover margin accounts for approximately 42 percent of their win variance. It’s arguably the most important statistic in football.”
From another college football stat guru: “While not all interceptions are created equal, the typical interception will drop a team’s win probability by about 10%.”
SDSU lost the game because it was extremely sloppy with the football. Should have won this going away. Minus-4 in turnovers is almost a guaranteed way to lose a game. And 3 INTs by Mayden was a back breaker.

Given that SDSU lost it’s entire QB room this year and had to fall back on their second string safety, 7-6 is actually kind of miraculous.
That being said, Hoke’s seat just heated up a bit.

The offense gave up 20 points That's how you lose a game when the other team has minus 60 rushing yards
At least Hoke has found creative ways to lose. The Fresno debacle and now this.

I see, because you're a season ticket holder I should just simply yield to you. How pompous of you. Sheesh. Again, you show your lack of knowledge by only going to the interception stat for an accuracy assessment. I get it because that's all you got on him. What is his overall completion percentage while at SDSU? I believe it's some where near 65 percent. Not bad. How many dropped balls did he have this year? How many interceptions were on the receivers? You should know this since you're a a season ticket holder after all. Lol. Mayden was thrown to the wolves with a bad O'line and he performed remarkably. He must have offended you in some way for you to not think he did very well under the circumstances. Get a grip, bud. YOU were the one accusing him of not watching a game. He told you he went to every home game in person and watched every road game on tv. Then because you can’t argue facts, you gaslight him by saying again he’s pompous for answering your question if he had ever watched a game. Then you say “you show your lack of knowledge by only going to the interception stat for an accuracy assessment.” That right there shows how you have no idea what you are talking about. THAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT STAT FOR A QB. Honestly you’ve been a pathetic poster ever since you complained about your kid the QB not getting recruited by SDSU. You’re making excuses like “he was thrown to the wolves with a bad oline and performed remarkably” (lol) and then turn around and tout his completion percentage for the year as 65% which shows your ignorance because his season completion percentage was 59% which is pedestrian - particularly when 4.2% of his passes were caught by the other team. Who was the last SDSU qb to have an int ratio greater than 4%? This is all true Except Mayden didn't get a spring or fall camp to practice QB. He didn't throw the football for well over 1 year. He hasn't taken any meaningful QB reps in several seasons prior. He was taking QB4 reps his entire college career before moving to safety. While some of Mayden's INTs are the result of an inaccurate pass, by far the vast majority were timing/route issues that appear like widely inaccurate passes on TV but it's usually a timing issue or Mayden just making a bad read. Meaning most of his INTs this year could be cleaned up with actual camps and QB1 reps, increasing his command of the offense without actually improving his accuracy. The guy is a senior and he's literally never had even a single college camp as a QB in contention for the starting job. And then he didn't even play QB the entire season before being asked to play it after the 5th game. I don't know if many of you realize what an amazing job he did this season because of this. I'm not saying Mayden is gonna be great after actually getting two full camps as QB1. But, he didn't even have the arm strength this year to throw all the passes because he didn't literally throw a football for well over a year. Especially, deep balls. I'm holding out on judgement on Mayden until next season.

The good news is the new QB who just committed is known for his accuracy.
So I bet Aztec coaching ruins that 😁

Very disappointing end to a very disappointing season. I applaud Jaylen Mayden for saving our season to a certain degree, but if he’s our starting QB next year, A) we’re not going to be very good again, B) the coaching staff needs to be evaluated, and without prejudice.. I feel with Hoke and his current staff, we’ll be an OK team in the MWC, but I don’t think that’s why we built a brand new stadium, nor is that remotely good enough if we’re trying to move up and play with the big boys in the P-5 realm.
I think back to last season and how our offense didn’t look great, but we still won games and it’s clear to me why…we had an all world punter who could flip the field from literally anywhere, and with a stout defense, get our so so offense the ball back with a short field, where we could score just enough to get by and get the W. Without that this season it’s blatantly obvious that we’re a .500ish team, and I don’t feel that’s acceptable for where we all want the program to be.

I will be surprised if Hoke doesn't emulate his Michigan fiasco here. Watch his win total decline annually; for FFS, the man cannot evaluate talent on the player or coaching side. That is a recipe for abject failure.

We lost the game because we couldn’t run the ball. The play of the OL was not good enough all season Going forward that is my biggest concern both for coaching and the quality of our players.Plus needing to replace entire DL Hard to see how there won’t be a drop in DL play. Being young is most problematic up front. Some hope for OL improvement if it’s not a coaching problem. 2023 looks to me most likely to be a “rebuilding “ year and a regression for the program.

2023 looks to me most likely to be a “rebuilding “ year and a regression for the program. Not to be mean, but how to you regress from MTSU and maintain any credible P-5 / PAC 12 aspirations? I'm sorry, but I'm disappointed. As I've said many times, I want us both to finish in the Top 15 (us above you, of course) every year because I've always thought that our best chance of going P-5 was to go together, as rivals and travel partners. We didn't have the depth to overcome our injuries this season and, at best, will be top 25. So we didn't make it either. I don't know what the hell happened to you but whatever it was, suggestions that you will regress from here next season are really disappointing. Maybe television market alone will save you but if not, then you'd better get it together or I'm going to have to find a new travel partner to root for. Incidentally, we'll be improved next season. Do better. Don't regress.

I believe that he's the same character who swore up and down that Burmeister was going to be the second coming of Brian Sipe because he had a low interception ratio. He said he had watched film of every game in Burmeister's collegiate career and knew his capabilities more than anyone. What he failed to observe was Burmeister's career completion % at every school he attended...low/mid 50s and 50% at sdsu. Yet, he criticizes Mayden's better completion %. Burmeister has a QB rating of 81.5 vs. Mayden's 147.2. But Fowl's the QB expert so don't even attempt to debate him on the subject.

I know SDSU had a bad season. But, the TV market may save you statement is a reach. Fresno St in the last 10 years had 5 season with a winning record. Point taken. We've both had our issues. I'm not suggesting that for the past 10 years we have been anywhere close to consistently finishing in the Top 15; the closest we got was to #18, in 2018. The top 15 is an aspirational goal, especially on a consistent basis. But I want to see us both improving every year. I believe that we are making progress toward that goal. It doesn't sound like the poster that I responded to thinks that you are. My concern was less about how you or we finished this season -- it was about the observation that you might regress next season. That wouldn't be helpful for either of us. Like I said, Do better. Don't regress.

...and Aztec football will regress again with a sub-.500 record. Look at the schedule and look who we're losing. And then, look at the offensive coaching staff and head coach...
