Considering the way we started n how we finished, just happy for the kids. Gotta think goin to HA instead of Albuquerque or Boise is a plus. Tucson would of been attended by more probably but.....u take what u get.

I know folks on both the SDSU and MTSU faculties who will be pleased to have an excuse for an extended island visit. The annual Hawaii International Conference on Education is Jan. 3-6 in 2023 - and it's in Honolulu to boot!

And of the MWC bowl tie-ins, the Hawaii Bowl pays $1.2M. The J. Kimmel LA bowl has yet to post the $ pay-out, but likely will pay more. But Hawaii looks to be number two.
GO AZTECS

Middle Tennessee State has an explosive offense, that likes to go vertical (sound familiar?). They used it against the Miami Hurricanes and won (sound familiar?).
I like the bowl location, I don't like our chances. They're pretty good.
Oldie Out

the Aztecs play in a MID Conference with MID tie ins for Bowls
As mentioned many times - it helps recruiting when a school can say it was Bowl E for over 10 + years and recruiting is the name of the game
12/24 game gives the team a chance to have as many practices as they are allowed and this team needs them as does next year's team

Practice isn't going to help the lame offense or its OC … the problem for this group is that apparently not even perfect practice will make for perfect play at game time, so if all they do is practice more of the same crappy plays that "got them here" and aren't run well most of the time anyway, what difference is "more of the same" nonsense going to make come Christmas Eve? Defense might actually get some good practice in, however. So that's good.
The past three years have been a real Dead Zone for Aztec Football, and this year has nearly killed it - and not in the right way, either. Low expectations for the game, but still hope the boys have a great time on the island as a reward their hard work for the Aztecs this season. Not thinking the "offensive" coaching staff should be joining in on any of the fun however.

That's a pretty harsh grading scale. Aztecs are a Hawaii Bowl game win away from 20 wins the past two season. Not at all saying there aren't / haven't been issues, but I think you're being more than a little hyperbolic. Edit: And to add... the last time SDSU had a losing season in football was 2009, Hoke's first season as HC.

Dead as in uninspired, unexciting, unwatchable at times… irregardless of their record. Their level of play and competitiveness hasn't been commensurate with expectations. Winning seasons against backwater MWC teams over and over again means little if they can't ever get past the hump. Sorry, but it is what they've made it be…

Sorry, but it is what they've made it be… So how is three 2+ extra weeks of practice NOT going to help the team, esp. offense get better? We have a 'new' starter at QB, young backup QBs, QB coach, and young offensive line who would all benefit from the extra reps... [edited]

It's 4 weeks from the last game (AFA) to the bowl game December 24. The rules for bowl game practices are the same as practice during the season, the only thing that will be different is Finals week, travel (arriving a little earlier then normal) and bowl game commitments. There is no 15 practice day limit on the amount of practices, that is some old misguided article from yesteryear.

I'm stoked for the players getting to go to Hawaii. They turned it around this year after an awful start, so this is nice. If we started strong and finished lousy, I would feel differently

The biggest benefit to bowl eligibility is the extended practices. Those are worth more than anything else.

The Aztecs offense did not play well in the MW Champs game last year yet had an effective offense for their Bowl game
Little Doubt the Aztec QB can use the additional practices as well as the OL
Believe Brady did a Press Conference and said that if there are guys that are entering the Portal he hopes they do soon and will not play in Bowl game but it was difficult to completely hear what he was saying ?
Think the Aztecs and the Coaches should use the extra practices and consider this an last game for the Seniors and audition for those that could be playing next season
Prefer that scenario over teams that do not play in a Bowl game - The Bowl game can not hurt the team only benefit
Also chance for the Offense to really open up the playbook
