So what’s the deal with this kid? Is he like a redshirt/end of bench type guy? We haven’t recruited “redshirt/end of bench” type guys for a long time. Sometimes they turn out that way, but we’re long past that. Check out the article. If you believe the UT (which, as we know, isn’t exactly the most plugged in or always accurate local media), Dutch recruited Heide harder than anyone in his tenure. That doesn’t happen for a “redshirt/end of bench” type guy.

So what’s the deal with this kid? Is he like a redshirt/end of bench type guy? In case you’re paywalled… snippets: And after Brian Dutcher first saw Heide in person last spring, the San Diego State head coach was determined that he play for the Aztecs. “I’ve had a decent amount of recruitable kids over my career,” said Jason Griffith, the Mount Si High coach whose teams are perennial contenders for the Washington state title, “and I have never seen a head coach take the lead on a kid like this, ever. It’s usually the assistants who are lining everything up and calling and texting. Dutcher was lead the guy from the moment they saw him. “That’s kind of a testament of how bad Dutcher wanted him in the program. I mean, they have been relentless. I have not seen a school recruit a kid as hard as they recruited Miles.” Heide was a key cog last season at Mount Si (28 miles east of Seattle), averaging 14.5 points and 10.1 rebounds on a 25-1 team that lost in overtime in the 4A state championship game. But what caught the Aztecs’ attention is what he did at the Section 7 recruiting event in Arizona last June for the West’s top teams: 21.5 points, 19.5 rebounds, 3.0 blocks. Heide also visited Washington State and was pursued by Colorado, Utah and Iowa. He chose SDSU, he said, for the relationships with the coaches, the winning tradition, the playing style and the blue-collar ethic of the players.

His HS coach said he expected Heide to be 6'10" 240lbs by the time he got to SDSU. His rebounding totals are already impressive at his listed height and weight now.
Hey Gundo, change the title of this thread to "Commits".

I have not seen this kid play although the rebounding numbers are jumping out at us. This tells me he has the uncanny ability to get the loose ball, has good lateral movement, good hands, stays after it and is not a stiff in the paint. I wonder if he fits the Malcom Thomas, Arop, or a JJ O’Brien mode type player. Much to like if that is the case. There is something about this kid that Dutcher absolutely wanted and super happy we got him.

Limited video I've seen of the player just turned 17.....kid's got good hands and nimble feet...two physical attributes that are very hard to teach bigs....
In Dutch I trust!

We've done pretty well over the years... getting players late in the recruiting cycle (well into, or after, their senior years).
So glad to see us 'getting' our top targets prior to senior year even starting!
Great work by Dutcher and crew!

Evans, also in the picture, but leaning to TCU & Minnesota (official this weekend)

They have signed NOBODY yet. Okay, 2 of 3 have verbally committed to the Aztecs. Ca we get Dennis Evans to stay in CA and ditch TCU & Minnesota.

Reminds me a bit of Cameron Bairstow. I would gladly take that.
