To those of you who have been to games in Carson, are there any words of advice us newbies should know about. For example, I plan on going this Saturday with my Dad and two young kids, 5 and 7. Do we need to bring our vaccine cards (I heard not until October)? Best freeways to take there from SD? Best places to eat in the stadium or around it? Best places to park? Best places to sit (under the press boxes for shade in the middle of the day). Is it a good location to watch a game (too far, lower seats are not good, etc.) Etc. any advice is appreciated.

If the 405 is heavy, look at the 5 to the 91.

It's a nice stadium. Much better viewing experience than Qualcomm. Being a soccer stadium, the seats are a little further from the sideline than ideal, but really can't get a bad seat in the place. If it's a light crowd, don't buy the most expensive seats. The $45 seats are very nicely padded. I bought $25 seats which were right across the aisle and just moved over. I don't know what a day game would be like but there seems to be plenty of shade. Food in the venue is meh, typical overpriced and mediocre stadium food. You won't find anything special there. Really nothing immediately around the stadium either - it's kind of a sleepy neighborhood. If you're not tailgating, plan on finding a place to eat before you head in.

First, go here: goaztecs.com/sports/2021/8/16/football-gameday.aspxPlenty of info about the stadium, parking policies, entrance requirements, etc. you will need to pay for a parking pass...$20 for no tailgating, $40 for tailgating. For tomorrows game, 5 to 73 (toll road) to 405 is quickest. Since it's a day game, you'll be leaving early enough to miss any real mid-day traffic (it only took 2 hours when I went up to the NMState game...left at noon...leaving at 9 or earlier should be a breeze). Sparse crowd, so moving around is no big deal. Have to have a mask to get in, but once in, nobody really enforces that if it's an issue for you.

It will likely be hot, while stadium will be in sunlight for the 12:30 kick. Don’t by anything below row F or G or you will start to lose the sideline view. Stuff is expensive.

Impressed by the stadium but not the food. Food was very expensive for mediocre food. I plan on eating an early lunch before getting to the stadium

Parking is easy and fast. Just look for $20 v $40 lots. Bring a mask but if not you can get a free SDSU gaiter. Food is expensive and decent.
It's a terrific experience overall. Glad you'll be joining us. Have fun!

Download Waze app or Google map for best-fastest way to go. Aztec family zone on north end by $40 tailgating area. If sitting in south end there is $20 non-tailgating parking south of stadium. Food is expensive, they have usual fare. South end has a semi-food court with Mex,Sushi n BBQ.game starts at 12:30 so sun will shine on home/east side whole game. Sun will be at your back at least later or in some shade on visitors/west side.

Watching the afternoon games on TV, the Aztec sideline side was getting sun-bleached. Wear a wide brimmed sunhat and sunglasses until the sun sets (skin cancer is real). You're gonna get sunburned. Be ready to come home with "raccoon eyes" and serious farmer's tan lines.

If you take the toll road from Mission Viejo up past Irvine, prepare for a big slowdown once you rejoin at the 405 as there is a construction zone. The earlier kick time for Saturday might help, because I assume you will be making your way up earlier.
Having been twice, I really REALLY liked the far less-crowded $20 lot to the southeast of the stadium off of, I think, University. It was like me and 5 other cars in a @ 200 car lot, which is great for those of us who are still keeping our distance from others. It's a longer walk, but certainly not unbearable (5 minutes).
P.S., the walk also leads to a gate that had not one spectator going through it. I was it with 20 minutes before kick. Perfect.

Thanks for all the replies. One last question...do you think it would be better (if we arrive fairly early) to buy tickets at the gate instead of online? Or is there a service charge either way? The charges online seem fairly steep.

a few caveats
the visitor's side gets the shade but then you get to look at the Aztecs bench from the front; pressbox side is the place to be
those who say the concessions were pricey are dead on = 2 tall Modelo beers came to $34. - they were 24 ounces each, but still
even the tailgating lots can be as low as $20. if the vehicle has a handicapped plate or one of the occupants has brought the blue and white placard to hang from the rear view mirror
it is a nice stadium, if small
bit of a long ride from Baja but the facility is excellent for its size, including the convenience of reaching the parking and then getting from the lot into the stadium
we did the 5 to the 91 for the Utah game without problems but that game started at a different time
won't be using the Aztec canopy as we were able to find shade while we tailgated and this game will likely be less heavily attended than the last
gonna have a free ticket for the Towson game for the first Aztec fan that comes by and asks as number one son cannot make this game; just look for two old guys in Lot 13

The charges online seem fairly steep. I'd wait until you get there, not necessarily because there may not be the service charge but you may find a fellow Aztec fan who may be able to help you out by having extra tickets. There really shouldn't be any reason to buy early for this one.
