By the way, the Padres are projected to win 92 games next season, with no changes to the roster. If Tingler is still the manager, I will take the under. Again.

And...Tingler has Hosmer batting cleanup today, with Manny out of the lineup.

Fangraphs, etc. Not particularly - Dan's been doing this since 2005 and this is the 11th time total in 17 seasons that a team will be off by more than 10 games from ZiPS. That's 98%. That's what we call an anomaly or an outlier. Projections are not gospel, of course, but I suspect if you get 30 more games out of Tatis, a non-implosion of the entire rotation and some stability in the pen, it's likely within the margin of error.

I didn't like the hire originally, and nothing Tingler has done the last 2 years has changed my mind on him. Tingler should not be here next year. Period. But I completely agree with you in that Preller is going nowhere.

So, what does Tingler actually do or have responsibility for? Is the team his to run as he sees fit?

All speculation aside, LOL, cleaning house would reset the clock on this team. That will have to be weighed against the current regime simply being shifted around like chairs on the Titanic once Tingler's dismissed.

Weren't some people here talking about Preller getting a statue out front one day? Lol. Lol - Yeah, dude. A general manager constructs a roster given the resources to them by ownership. In the span of a couple weeks, AJ traded for Yu Darvish, former Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell and massively underrated Joe Musgrove to reinforce the starting rotation. The question that needs to be asked is why players that come here underperform dramatically to expectations? Is Yu Darvish suddenly not good anymore? They traded for three top 30 arms. Three. Only Musgrove really pitched to his potential. They probably need 12+ WAR out of that trio...they didn't even get 10. If you would have told me before this season that this roster would have a 22-year-old shortstop hit 40 home runs and steal 25 bases, Joe Musgrove would throw a no-hitter, Mark Melancon would have a stellar year as a closer and Jake Cronenworth would take another step towards being a star, I would have assumed the team would win 95 games. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. That doesn't mean the pieces weren't in place to do so, though. They had a deal in place to acquire Max Scherzer at the deadline before the Nationals and Scott Boras did what they did. AJ of course gets no credit for that because it didn't come to fruition. How different would this rotation be with Scherzer getting starts instead of Vince Velasquez? Just a bit different, right? There's a solid core in place, as constructed by AJ Preller. The only notable free agent is Tommy Pham on the position player side. Everyone else is under control through at least next season. Preller isn't going to be fired - He's under contract through 2026 and was promoted just a few months ago. Strengthen the group around him and add some reinforcements to the roster (again) while cutting bait with the albatross on the roster. I like Preller, but his Manager hires have been the s##ts.

Well, then who is actually running the team? I went through the same conversation with Ryan. Apparently, according to Ryan, it's upper Management who pulls the strings. Pitiful, if true.

What the Giants are doing is pretty much unprecedented.

The front office has input in virtually everything. Which is asinine. Do people think this is rare? It's not limited to the Padres at all.
