I don't know if anybody has compiled a list of those who have won an Olympic gold medal and won a Ryder Cup in the same year, but I'm guessing it's a super short list...
And our guy has a shot.

It's not a long list of possibility. USA won the Ryder Cup in 2016 and Rose won the Gold. That's it. USA has 6 of 12 rookies.

Looks like both X and the team are off to a solid start this morning. Long way to go, though...

Who said the "individualistic" Americans can't play team golf! : )

Who said the "individualistic" Americans can't play team golf! : ) I was just talking to a golf buddy about this yesterday. The youngbloods who have come into the sport have really made a difference, and I think we're starting to see the payoff here at the Ryder Cup. The old guard -- Mickelson, Woods, et. al. -- were fabulous golfers, but definitely on the arrogant side. It's not like anyone was going to tell them what to do, and their approach wasn't conducive to team golf, which is a strange concept for the sport in and of itself. However, this batch of youngsters -- Xander, Speith, Cantlay, Morikawa, et. al. -- are not only fabulous golfers, but they're happy to be there and would also be more than happy to bust through a brick wall or jump on a grenade if asked.

Yeah, I don't know enough to understand why individual golf doesn't carry over to the team concept. But it did always seem incredibly weird how often Woods & Co had to scramble to be competitive each time a Ryder Cup event was held.

They'd tend to dominate singles play & be OK in Best Ball, but they'd struggle in Foursomes. Hard to win when you start singles down 10-6 & EU only need 4.5 pts of 12 on Sunday. Definitely a weird dynamic that they couldn't be better in the 1 element of play which required them to play off their partners shot?

Xander and DJ won in the afternoon 2 & 1. Our Aztec rookie comes out of the gate 2-0-0 in Ryder Cup.
Tiger was 13-21-3 during his Ryder Cup days.

Rack up another win for X, What a year for Xander! USA in a rout.
Pete Dye must have salted his Wheaties before designing this course. I wouldn’t break 200 playing that sucker, and that just the front 9!

3-0 for Xander. Not sure why he's not playing this afternoon. He's playing great golf.

The United States extended its lead at the 43rd Ryder Cup with a hot start Saturday morning during the third session of the competition, putting forward another impressive showing in foursomes. After building a 3-1 lead in the format Friday morning and carrying a 6-2 lead into Saturday after a 3-1 run in four-ball, the U.S. for a third time in as many tries went 3-1 in the four matches to lead 9-3 overall entering the afternoon. It's the Americans' largest lead through three sessions since 1975.
For a second consecutive day, the Europeans struck first before an avalanche of American momentum closed the morning. The Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia pairing scored the first point of the day with a 3&1 win over Brooks Koepka and Daniel Berger. The U.S. was 3 UP thru five in the match before Rahm and Garcia won seven of the final 12 holes. Rahm with the win is now responsible for every European point thus far in the Ryder Cup, and Garcia with the win became the winningest player in Ryder Cup history.
The Americans dominated the rest of the way with Collin Morikawa and Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas, and Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele closing out the morning with three straight wins. Johnson is now the first top-ranked American golfer win his first three Ryder Cup matches, while Schauffele matched him as the only other golfer with a 3-0 record thus far at Whistling Straits.

Congratulations to our 2021 Olympic champion and 2021 Ryder Cup champion.
And a wedding to -- I believe -- a fellow Aztec.
Any plans for the rest of the year??
