You may be right… but they have played and beat 3 P12 teams… They will play @baylor @wsu @u$C Host Virginia That gives them seven P5 games… They also play USF, who’s down, but was flying high when they signed the series as well as BSU who normally is a Top 5 G5 program. They also play an improved USU and a usually decent GaSo… It is a schedule, that if completed at 11-1 or 12-0, could get them a NY6 invite. A very, very outside shot at a NY6 yes, but not the Rose Bowl. This is a traditional year - only P12 & B1G teams allowed. BYU isn't eligible for the G5 berth, so they really needs to be a top 5 team to play in a NY6 bowl since the Rose Bowl, Sugar & Orange are all tied to specific P5 conference teams (+ ND). That's 6 P5 teams for sure + the G5 Rep for 7, and I sincerely doubt they get in the CFP. Given that, we're talking 1 available spot - good luck. Hello Shreveport!! (PS. Wow, that's one uninformed bowl prediction site. For one, anyone with a clue knows the Rose Bowl will be the top P12 vs. B1G team, and the 2nd best from either conference if the top teams are in the CFP. Plus, BYU is fixed to the Independence bowl unless they somehow get a NY6 invite. The fact we have ties to 7 bowls says a lot about this conference, despite what some may think of the bowls. I've seen us listed anywhere from the LA Bowl as conference champs (2 places), to Arizona (a few) & even the Potato (1). IMO these early bowl predictions, aside from maybe the NY6/CFP, are even much less reliable than the very early bracketology predictions. It's more akin to where the teams are playing (region/city) in bracketology than just getting in. Ultimately, we have 4 critical games that'll really determine placement - SJSU, Fresno, Nevada & Boise, assuming we get by the others. Win 3 of 4 & the door to LA is open. Bowl projections are always way off as you said (for some reason I still like to look at them). Rocky said before that the networks decide who they want for most of the bowls. |
