Also tweeted separately that Demarshay Johnson is redshirting, which I think a lot of people expected, but this was the first time I’ve heard it mentioned in an official way.

I believe it was known Jaedon Ledee was sitting out this year due to transfer.

I believe it was known Jaedon Ledee was sitting out this year due to transfer. He actually filed for a waiver… no idea if it will be granted.

MBB Visits: Elijah Saunders came last week. Koren Johnson arrived Wednesday. Miles Byrd is due over the weekend. The Aztecs are finalists for all three high school seniors and, possibly, the favorites.
Aztec two new bigs Jaelon LeDee 6'9" and Damarshay Johnson Jr. 6'10" are redshirting this season.

As Boise mentioned, that ones still on the table I believe. I don't think he's heard from the NCAA one way or another. Him redshirting would make sense, given our depth (Nate, Josh & Diabate), but if he's granted a waiver he's an immediate impact player. D Johnson's a no brainer, being a raw big, even at the HS level.

If we can land 2 of these 3 we're in great shape. All 3 would be outstanding.

So Aztecs lose Trey , and Joshua are playing their final season .
. With Nathan , AG , Adam , TD , Matt B as other guys that could go or stay ?

Think it's his final year as well (or at least i can't figure out how he'd get the extra year?). He played 27+ games in 2018, 2019 & 2020, and sat last year (which wouldn't have counted anyway). This would be his 5th season on the clock, 4th playing, with no medical RS on the docket & excludes his "free" year.

So TD if he chose to.... could apply for a waiver - does get interesting with the COVID rule ? Will also be interesting to hear how rusty he is after sitting a season although see him as a solid back up to Nathan at the 5 - freeing up Joshua to play some at the 4
In addition could see Nathan coming back next season to further his education and improve his Basketball skills if he wants to play in the Pros in some country
When I saw Nathen at Swish - he did seem slimmed down and working on his offensive skills -
Do look forward to Zeigler ' comments after some of the fall practices

AG if he can stay healthy is a great 6th man. He seems to change the energy, flow of the game when he comes in.

I'd really like to see what AG could do in one completely healthy year.

Yes it seems both AG and Nathan get hit with injuries that hinder their development .
AG also has to understand what he can and can't do . He is great around the basket on both ends of the court but not exactly the best with his outside shot or FT's , Maximize his talents and he becomes a real force but he has to know what he is best at - not everyone is a good three point shooter . Also what would help him at the FT line.

freeing up Joshua to play some at the 4 I mentioned this way back over the summer... but without having Synergy (or whatever subscription service you'd need to confirm) data, I'm pretty sure Tomiac didn't play a single minute anywhere but the 5. Like, I don't even think him and Nate were on the floor together at all. Josh is our backup 5. I don't think any part of his game translates to the wing at our level of basketball.

I think that they very briefly did for one or two games last year... like maybe 5-10 minutes in each game.

Would say now that the Aztecs have TD as a back up for Nathan that Joshua can spend more practice time at the 4 . Think he would prefer to play the 4 , but last season he was the basic back up for Nathan and both he and Nathan commit a lot of fouls . Do need strong play on Both ends of the court at the 5 .
This season he can work at playing the 4 in practice and see how that works . Does give the coaches a variety of options and who the opponent has in their line up .
So some options might be Keshad , AG , Brad ,or Joshua at the 4 ? Will also depend on who is playing the 3- is it Matt B ? If so what kind of player do the coaches feel they need from the 4 ? .
Looking forward to Zeigler's thoughts about Fall Practice

He's not playing the "wing" by any definition of the term, but they are working him out at the 4 (old school style) and see him playing with Nate (or Diamate) this year.
