Bobby Bowden, the former Florida State HC has died due to pancreatic cancer. He passed away on Sunday morning. He was second in Division 1 victories, and lead Florida St. from nothing to one of the top teams in Division 1 football.
He brought his Seminole team to San Diego in 1977, and they were 13th ranked in the country and expecting a big victory. The only problem was that the Aztecs did not go along with his plan, and pounded the Seminoles, 41-16. That Aztecs team was coached by Claude Gilbert. One thing that Bowden did notice while in the Stadium, and took with him to be used at Florida State forever more in their pre-game ceremony was he liked how Monty came out with his flaming spear and after doing a dance threw it into the ground. That's how the Seminoles got the idea to have the Seminole Warrior ride out on his horse with a flaming spear which he thrusts in the ground before each game at home. Bobby thought it really brought the spirit up of not only his football team, but the fans as well.
