From a pure interest standpoint, I wonder how much interest it generates?
Anyone watching? Anyone care? Seems like a very expensive venture for one baseball game. Someone must be making money somewhere.
Will we see a Natural game or some other throwback game to be played in East Backwater, USA?
Padres would have a hard time doing a throwback considering that Lane Field and Westgate Park have each been repurposed several times and are no longer available. I can still hear the pop fouls exploding off the roof of Westgate Park. Going to the little Hazard Zoo across the freeway from Westgate Park was always something to look forward to as a kid after Padres games on Sunday afternoons…

Whether its gimmicky or not I think it's great. If I could have pulled it off I may have gone, and would have tried even harder if the Pads were involved.
I'm a big fan of using neutral site games to generate interest across a variety of sports.
Recorded it & plan on watching at least a few innings later.

That’s what I said. Problem? I don't know what rating you're speaking of. It was a pure cash grab gimmick by MLB to put it together.

Your opinion, but not surprising😲 I I guess you just like to argue There's nothing to argue. MLB spent 5 million dollars to construct a stadium so they could play in a cornfield, right after the Yankees just got out of a COVID outbreak situation. I didn't know if you were talking about TV ratings or whatnot, that wasn't clear. I didn't watch because I don't like MLB's direction, especially when it comes to not protecting minor leaguers. It's terrible, really. I love the movie, but this was a cheesy reproduction to sell expensive tickets. (Cheapest tickets were nearly $1500)...

A very positive rating for the most part and extremely well done! Agreed. Thought the intro was good and the field was beautiful. Only thing I would have changed about the intro is to have Costner throw the 1st pitch to someone who looked like his dad in the movie and have James Earl Jones do the intros. Did a good job of honoring a great, classic movie and the game lived up to the hype. I doubt anyone who attended will ever forget it and doubt they're feeling ripped off by the price. Demand sets the price. I'd rate it high as well!

James Earl Jones is 90.5 years old, but I would've enjoyed seeing him do the introductions too. I haven't heard much about him for a few years, but his voice is, well, timeless.
Not to spoil it for anyone who hasn't watched yet, so I'll just say that the ending of the game is definitely something to hang around for.
Send Manfred a tweet. You know they're going to do this again…

Nice write-up on the production of the game, including this quote: Thursday night’s Fox Sports broadcast of the “Field of Dreams” game from Dyersville, Iowa, did what sports television productions dream about — it over-delivered on expectations. The White Sox defeated the Yankees, 9-8, on a Tim Anderson walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning, but the incredible ending was just part of the story. MLB and Fox’s investment to make this feel like an event played out remarkably (and the suits owe a big thank you to the players for the incredible ninth inning). Smoltz called it the most memorable regular-season game he had been part of in his baseball life. The devil will be in bottling that game.
There's only so much Fox Sports can control … but I agree that from premise to execution the production was well done. They lucked out to have had a good, hard hitting - and dramatic at the end - game, because a clunker (a la last night's Padres game) could've been just as deadly.
Regardless, I think that long term, last night's game will prove to be a positive for baseball.

The production value & delivery on every aspect of the game made it worth it, even if the outcome was more along a "normal" game. I'd rather have watched that game at 7-0 vs. any other game around baseball, even if somewhat closer (5-3, etc.). The outcome just took it from great to exceptional IMO.

Look for the Cubs to play in it next season. I'd have to imagine the Red Sox, Cards, Pirates & Indians would be the on list as well, depending upon how they project. All old-time 20's ballclubs. Maybe even the Dodgers in Brooklyn unis? But hard not to include the White Sox again since they were core to the movie.
